i have had a problem with my computer for the past 6 months, everytime i plugged in my charger then my screen would go so dim that i could barley see it, now it does it all the time regardless of my the charger being plugged in, i have no up arrow becuase it came off so i cant raise the brightness by doing that and i cant work out how to adjust is through the control panel becuase its windows and it crap, now i have a sign that has come up and it says my battery is past its usable life and needs to be replaced. do you think it is my battery that is causing the problem becuase at the moment i cant enjoy using my laptop.
my laptop is a DELL STUDIO 1737 and i belive it runs on vista pro.

any help would be much appreciated and does anyone else have this problem.

on a football note enrique cleared that on the line.......it wasnt a damn goal

    cheers

Mine automatically dims when I plug in the charger and I always have to manually increase it. Try sticking something into the slot where the up key used to be.

Have you tried taking the battery out altogether and running it directly from the power lead? When batteries are done they can actually stop the charger getting any charge into the laptop at all so when you take it out the battery channel will be bypassed. You will lose some portability as you will need a plug handy at all times but at least it may allow you to use it until you get a new battery*.

    *can be quite dear

Mine keeps switching off for no reason, sometimes after a couple of seconds, sometimes a couple of mins, sometimes it'll last 1/2 hour. Done all the checks, no viruses or anything, and when it is working everythings fine, nothing lost or anything. It's a right pain in the arse. Any ideas?
