Best Driver: Alonso, got a 2 wheeled McLaren to the pits and stopped on his mark, and then proceeded to get 7th Worst Driver: Grosjean Luckiest Driver: Raikonnen, speculative attempt to stay in 6th bought the safetry car out and sent him to the back of the pack, but incidents gave him an undeserved 2nd Unluckiest Driver:Bottas Best Rookie/New Driver: Leclerc Best Team: probably Mercedes, a 1-2 was on until Bottas hit the carbon fiber caltrop Surprise Team: FI for the whole weekend Worst Team: RBR because their drivers are part of the team Best Overtake: Danny on Crash Most Surprising Result: Perez Least Surprising Result: Crash Veerstappen Funniest moment: Grosjean's with the excuse of the week Excuse of the week: "I think Ericsson hit me" Grosjean's almost believable buck-pass attempt. Special Mention: Perez, Best post in race thread: Race Rating: 7.653/10 I enjoyed it, would've preferred a Bottas win though , so that accounts for the arbitrary .347 deduction
Exactly my thoughts, word for word. No time now but I'll post up my list soon. (I'm getting on a bit now, so that means give me about two days).
Best Driver: not many but Alonso did a great job. Also Sains. Not sure how Hamilton won and also got driver of the day? Worst Driver: Grosjean. Still nil point. Was going to say vandoorne but how did he get from dead last at safety car to the points? Luckiest Driver: Jamilton Unluckiest Driver: Bottas Best Rookie/New Driver: LeClerc had a fine drive. Best Team: Ferrari Surprise Team: Force India Worst Team: Red Bull Best Overtake: ricciardo on verstappen....not that one Most Surprising Result: Alonso in points Least Surprising Result: Funniest moment: Excuse of the week: Grosjean was hit by Ericsson Special Mention: Hulk. This was a day to get a podium. Best post in race thread: bhaji and his prediction Race Rating: 8/10
Best Driver: Several stellar drivers. I'm giving it to Leclerc (who has also DOTD El_B?) Worst Driver: Grosjean, poor all weekend. Luckiest Driver: Hamilton Unluckiest Driver: Bottas Best Rookie/New Driver: Leclerc Best Team: Mclaren? Surprise Team: Sauber Worst Team: Red Bull Best Overtake: DR on MV Most Surprising Result: A Sauber in 6th is possibly more unlikely than Perez 3rd? Insane how Perez now has 8 podiums, all from his time with Force India and Sauber. Least Surprising Result: Verstappen crashing Funniest moment: DR telling Lazenby he'd "sucker punch him in the stomach" if he didn't stop trying to interrupt his pre-race engineer chat. Excuse of the week: Grosjean's engineer "I think Ericsson hit us" Special Mention: Gutted for Bottas. Best post in race thread: Race Rating: 9.5/10
That was the strategic call of the season, he came in with everyone else when the SC was deployed, then came in again the lap before the restart and got new heated tyres, it put him way back which meant he could drive at a much better pace which meant he could keep the temps up whilst everyone else struggled.
Best Driver: Leclerc. Even with all the stuff going on, that Sauber had no reason to be in 6th. Worst Driver: Grosjean. F1 cars have brakes, learn how to use them properly. It's you, not the Haas........ Hulkenburg was close with his crash and turning into Sirotkin, though Sirotkin has got the penalty!? Luckiest Driver: Alonso and Kimi. Can't see how Alonso can get driver of the day. Did he actually overtake anyone on the track after the first SC, seemed to benefit from everyone else dropping out in front of him or being off sequence with tyres. Kimi lucked into 2nd for mainly the same reasons but Ferrari power helped him dispatch some of the lower order earlier on. Unluckiest Driver: Bottas and Vettel. Vettel losing the race as Merc's luck held out waiting for an SC, then Bottas for late race heartbreak. Best Rookie/New Driver: Leclerc. Best Team: Ferrari, though they took their time to get going through the weekend Surprise Team: Williams. There is a reasonable car in there somewhere. Sirotkin never go the chance to see how he could have done in the race. Worst Team: Red Bull Best Overtake: Ricciardo on Verstappen when he made it stick after a few attempts Most Surprising Result: Sauber and Williams in the points Least Surprising Result: Grosjean having a moan Funniest moment: Grosjean throwing his gloves at an unwitting mechanic Excuse of the week: Grosjean, blaming someone who was no where close to him for crashing. Special Mention: Perez. Another podium for being in the right place at the right time again. Best post in race thread: Race Rating: 8/10
Some interesting scoring going on. http://www.planetf1.com/news/driver-ratings-azerbaijan-grand-prix/ Hulk got a 7? For what!? He potentially waved goodbye to a podium with his early crash.
Best Driver: Leclerc / Perez. The former for the best performance of his entire life; the latter for his determination and tenacity. Worst Driver: Grosjean. Hartley's horrendous, inexcusable error in Qualifying was redeemed by a very respectable race performance. Luckiest Driver: Hamilton, for once – but I do not begrudge him. He has often been very unfortunate and Lady Luck still has a long way to go to balance the books. Also Räikkönen, who was just as lucky to claim 2nd. Unluckiest Driver: Bottas. He'd driven well all weekend and was extremely unfortunate to get a puncture so close to the finish. Best Rookie/New Driver: No hesitation here: Leclerc. Best Team: Ferrari. Best car, well-organised; definitely leading the way at the moment. Surprise Team: Haas. In the negative sense. Given recent performances, I expected better. Worst Team: Red Bull for exactly the reason given by Big Ern. Best Overtake: Ricciardo on Verstappen when he finally managed it after a battle with his team-mate lasting several laps – and some questionable defending from the latter. Now, I'm not one for team orders but I believe this was occasion for an exception: Ricciardo was clearly quicker during that phase of the race and the ongoing battle, although entertaining, was damaging a reasonable chance to catch a Ferrari or Mercedes. Had it been the other way around, there are two points: 1/ I believe Ricciardo would almost certainly have seen the bigger picture; 2 (and far less savoury, I'm afraid)/ I believe Ricciardo may have been ordered out of the way… Most Surprising Result: Perez podium. Least Surprising Result: Probably Verstappen in another incident, or Grosjean's peculiar tendency for a loss of concentration. Funniest moment: Grosjean. Clowns often make me laugh. Excuse of the week: Grosjean suggesting he'd been hit. Such a ridiculous assertion makes me wonder if the crash woke him from a bad 'where am I?' dream. Utterly bizarre. Grosjean is a strange animal. I wonder if he takes mini-sleeps whilst driving? Special Mention: Bottas. Perez. Leclerc. Race Rating: 9.12/10
Best Driver: Leclerc Worst Driver: Grosjean Luckiest Driver: Lewis, but I don’t begrudge him it Unluckiest Driver: Bottas and Vettel Best Rookie/New Driver: Leclerc Best Team: Ferrari Surprise Team: Renault Worst Team: RB Best Overtake: The Ricc and Max battle in general Most Surprising Result: Perez podium Least Surprising Result: Max Funniest moment: The look on The RB pit wall when the obvious finally happened Excuse of the week: Horner blaming their drivers. It was like leaving a toddler with a can of red paint on your white lounge carpet. Special Mention: Vettel and Perez Best post in race thread: Race Rating: 8.23/10
Late contender for Romain's worst driver award, what the hell was his teammate doing here? https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/...-f1-gasly-magnussen-dangerous-azerbaijan.html
Hamilton asked him to do it over the radio. All part of a big conspiracy . But, wow, shocking from Magnussen. Apparently too many vibrations so his mirrors were 'useless'. So basically piloting a misslie blindly not knowing what was going on around him. Well done Kev, well done. If that had been Max the internet would be on fire.............
I guess there are mitigating circumstances given his mirror looks like it's held on with a twizzlwr stick, but still pretty ropey! Blimey.
Best Driver: Leclerc. Done an exceptional job to finish where he did in the Sauber for a rookie. Well done. Worst Driver: Grosjean. Binned an excellent opportunity for some good points. Luckiest Driver: Raikkonen to finish 2nd Unluckiest Driver: Bottas, poor guy got robbed of a win again. Best Rookie/New Driver: Charles Leclerc Best Team: Renault showed some good race pace, just a shame Hulk got a bit too hot into a corner. Surprise Team: Williams finishing in the points Worst Team: Red Bull. Wiping each other out us poor. Best Overtake: Danny on Max Most Surprising Result: Perez finishing 3rd Least Surprising Result: Verstappen involved in another crash Funniest moment: "I think Ericsson hit us" Excuse of the week: as above Special Mention: Good race for Carlos Sainz and Alonso. Best post in race thread: Race Rating: 8/10
