Yes you know who you are. Going mad while willian chose other clubs over a 5mil extra fee. calling him a clown, amateurish, slow... etc etc. I hope you see that the one scouse at the club when G&H tried to ruin us... .the one guy who's stepped up to be our MD and who's worked very hard as using bic biros to save costs He's done the business. If someone REJECTS us.. well you cannot expect us to go do a carroll and add 5mil to the fee. you cannot talk about speed when you don't know whats going on and frankly... we got a lot of players in who wanted to join us and now i hear its nearly a perfect window... I think some should be big enough to apologise myself. so here's your chance... not to me I don't give two Fs, ou can use this thread to give some love up to Ayre.
Most people are disappointed when we are missing out on our targets. Tottenham spent nearly all the money they got for Bale. Time will tell !.
Still don't rate him but credit for getting some good players in this summer. Commercially, he is very capable and brokered some great deals. I think he should stick to staying behind the scenes. EDIT: I don't blame Ayre for not getting some targets. Mkhitryian chose Dortmund, Costa used our interest to get a better contract and the board weren't prepared to increase the bid to get Willian.
I'm pretty much in this boat. Although I think part of the struggle we have attracting players is also related to the incentivised pay structure.
Rate him as what? or compared to what? .......................... FSG have given him a specific role. that role includes "Commercially, he is very capable and brokered some great deals" He has guys running the commercial side but is still responsible for the thing. Was the tour a disaster? no its was a roaring success. have any commercial deals been missed? has he mishandled much of anything? .......................... If you are comparing Ayre to Levy for exmaple... think on this. 1. Levy had how long of constant building to get where he is now? 2. Levy has had how many stars to sell to fund transfers? 3. Ayre has had how long in current structure. since 2011 as MD. its now 2013 and look at the transformation in fortunes. .............................. here is wiki Leaving school at age 16, he joined the Royal Navy. After leaving the senior service, he then undertook various roles in business in Asia, eventually becoming Chief Executive of Pace Systems. Returning to the UK, he became Chief Executive and Chairman of Huddersfield Town F.C. for three years, before spending three years at sports TV firm Premium TV, an NTL subsidiary. He then moved to Malaysia, as CEO of Total Sports Asia, which included managing interests in Total Sports TV. He is also currently the Chairman of The Visitor Economy Committee for The Mersey Partnership, overseeing the visitor economy for the Liverpool City Head hunted by a team working for then owners Tom Hicks and George N. Gillett, Jr., in 2007 Ayre was appointed Commercial Director at Liverpool. He used the Asian Liver Bird book to secure a shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered Bank - believed to be one of the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deals in football. However, he did not credit the author of the book. On 15 October 2010, NESV completed its £300m takeover of Liverpool,]] at which time the clubs existing Managing Director Christian Purslow stepped down.[3] The club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, led by John W. Henry and the chairman Tom Werner, announced Ayre as the new Managing Director on 22 March 2011.] I think he's an amazing individual myself. But most of all, no matter that he is just trying his best. How can anyone fault a guy for giving his all for our club? Has he done a purslow and bought joe cole... nope. Has he failed to deliver... yes honestly Aug 31 2012 he failed. Has he learned... i think the evidence is everyone has learned.
that's a club strategic decision. until we have a 60k stadium and cl football we cannot be offering 150k per week like arsenal. we need to live within our means and incentive's for players to perform is required. I've love to be owned by some mad arab with 1bil for transfers and 300k per week to anyone but hey... it aint us.
As the Commercial Director, he's done a great job and I said that originally. He's been involved in some massive deals and has helped shaped this club off the pitch. When it comes to footballing matters, I'm not convinced - his time as MD has been mixed. His handling of the Suarez racism case was awful (the whole club was poor) and he should have provided the leadership. Along with Purslow, he was responsible for getting rid of Rafa and bringing Roy. Again, things like this lead me to believe that he should stick working behind the scenes and sticking to the commercial side of the club. We have endured a difficult few years but we have experienced some seriously poor PR during his time as MD. Might not be his fault directly, but he is MD and therefore ultimately responsible. EDIT: I look at people like David Dein and David Gill. Powerful, influential men who have contacts all over the globe and have successfully run clubs.
I'll pin my flag to the Ayre mast. His role is to ensure that all of the operational aspects of the club work together for the wellbeing of the of the club. I can find no reason to assume that he has failed in any way. So I would challenge his detractors to identify somebody who can do better than Ayre.
I've already owned up to my one bout of negativity mid cup match. Wasn't directed so much at Ayre rather that FSG needed better leadership this side of pond to remove the perception of a veto by people that say they know little about football but control the money. i stand by that by the way: if one of them was here on a daily basis we'd assume they've learnt the trade and more readily accept their decisions as well as a more immediate authoritative responses to incidents such as Suarez (not the transfer one which was handled well by all) And my only grumble actual player in wise was defence: sorted. Of course some of us don't know all these players, particularly the continental players so maybe if when we come on here every day to find out & we are greeted by a continuous "mweh; he's ok but no big improvement to the squad" or "we're letting better players go" etc etc by those who claim to know such things it didn't help develop a positive light on our dealings especially when we seem to be missing the more recognisable players ? Did we all have a part to play in the negativity at times? Possibly?.... And the trend continues; what should be a happy day for almost all concerned and we have a thread encouraging infighting once again. So happy days, I thought our acquisitions were realistic and good for where we are. The team is developing and the odd crush on a player with no intention to come to us but playing with our hearts aside, good business done. So to continue with the actual football.
Firstly Ian Ayre is NOT currently the Commercial Director - Billy Hogan is presently in that position. Secondly, neither you nor I actually know just how much involvement Ayre has in the negotiating process so your criticism there is a little concern. I know from my own experience that it was not until the very end of a negotiation that I would introduce my CEO into the process - and only then if it helped to seal the deal! I totally fail to see what Ayre's involvement in Rafa leaving has to do with is ability. Again you can only work on hearsay. As for Dein and Gill - well both of them have now retired. They were powerful and influential but that power and influence came as much from the clubs they represented as it did from their personal abilities. Comparatively Ayre has been in the job 2 minutes so you wouldn't expect his 'little black book' to be as full! Sorry mate, I usually agree with you but on this occasion I think you've got the blinkers on.
Because Ian Ayre is the head of the Operational Management Team and our chairman (Tom Werner) does not even live in the UK!
you are saying ayre hired roy and made the recommendation as the commercial director when purslow was the ceo.... ok... now i accept as part of a baord everyone has shared responsibility but i feel that goes way way too far. cos he at there while they hired the wrong guy yet i or you can't know who said what. BTW I'd have sacked rafa after aquilani... I accept again suarez very difficult thing. as MD he could have done things differently yet you know what suarez let the club down by not cshaking hands and frnakly kenny ought to have left it and not started on the whole thing himself. again can't he learn? can't he develop along with rodgers over the same time it took spurs to develop? didn't levy lose keane and berbaflop and nearly get spurs relegated with ramos? no? if people can't learn and grow or dare make an error then I'm afraid its all for nought. I'm fairly sure dein was i nthe job at arsenal for a long time. he was vice chairman at the place and it sat on the baord that hired rioch and nearly ruined the arsenal and he also was on the board that sanctioned bergkamp buy and hired wenger.... 1983 to 2007 thats a LONG time ayre 2011 to present in the top job. the path is similar, hire on rodgers, part of the stadium plns that are SUPPOSEDLY coming down to a few houses now.... give him a couple of YEARS!!! Gill.... he was a finance director at utd then the top man and he sold the thing to the glaziers and lumped all that debt on!!!! nobodys perfect is the message but Ayre is red through and through, no ego trip, no he knows best, he'll work and do his absolute best for us....
hardly infighting to quote "so here's your chance... not to me I don't give two Fs, ou can use this thread to give some love up to Ayre." the lack of love for a fellow red is probably why theres infighting.
