The Sunday Mirror reports that Lambo is planning a double raid on us for Holt & Ayala? I must admit that if he was after another of our players, other than Holt, Ayala wouldn't have been the other one I'd have guessed it to be? What's the situation with his injury? Will he be fit for pre season ?
To be honest, I'd rather he aimed for Ayala than Ryan Bennett, who I reckon has far more potential, both in terms of representing his national team in the future, and is a better talent. He will cost £4m at least because of his age surely? Anyone else think that Lambo might be trying to sneakily paste together Ayala, Whitbread, and Naughton into the Villa defence? Always a possibility...
TBH this is probably nothing more than more lazy journalism, it doesn't take much imagination to make this up. Even if it's true PL would have to be stupid to come in for Norwich players knowing he'd have to face McNasty. Even if he does raid us it's going to cost him very very dearly. TBH if PL came calling me at the club asking about players I simply wouldn't return his calls especially given that NCFC are having to take Villa to tribunal/court/whatever.....
Lambert never gave much away b4 when he was with us, so I'm finding it difficult to believe that suddenly things are being leaked in this way now. Probably agents trying to get those players a few extra quid for next season. I like Ayala as a player and wouldn't want to lose him. That said I also liked Whitbread but would not want both in the same squad as its too risky with the propensity to spend as much time on the treatment table as the pitch.
Wouldn't think anything will happen regarding selling players a the moment. Isn't Hughton on holliday with his big pile of DVDs? Surely nothing will happen until he's back?
Apparently we are in for Danny Simpson, along with fulham and qpr in the bbc gossip round up Do we think this is lazy journalism with the hughton link, or a possibility? I believe he wants out of saint James, couldn't see his wages being low enough for us
I think Lambert needs to sort his backroom staff before he looks at players oh yeah, we've got them hostage. Your move Villa...
I share those thoughts. However I don't think Ayala is the right player for Villa at the moment. He's a good player, and shows a heck of a lot of potential, but his rash tackling and injury proneness make him a bit of a risk. Especially as Lambert needs players who can make an instant impact.
Totally agree, if Villa make an unbelievable offer then I think we should accept it. But I don't think they will for the reasons above.
BRILLIANT Beef. My thoughts exactly. Re the transfer rumours, I'm sure that most of it is just lazy journalism as there's nothing much going on other than the Euros kicking off tomorrow for England!!!!
If Villa come in for any of our players no doubt McNally will add another 0 to their valuation. I seriously cannot see us selling any players other than Holt and whoever Hughton doesn't want.
When a manager moves on there will always be speculation that he will take his best players with him. It usually isn't the case with more than the odd player e.g. Fox and Tierney. I say lazy journalism in this case.
anyone else find it a little strange that most of lambert's targets for villa are the same as those we were chasing? i thought villa were rolling in cash...
At the end of the 2009/10 season Gary Doherty was named 3rd in the player of the season award list, but on 14 May 2010 it was announced that he had been released by Norwich City. I think Lambert has been plotting how to strengthen Villa's defence for years...
Haha, true. I thonk the foc is available again isnt he!? Seriously though, if Lambert knew he was going to go and let him go so he could take him to Villa on a free then you would have to question the move, surely? I guess the board probably ratified the decision but on why grounds. He was a pretty good rotation option in my opinion.
