Haas so close to points, they deserve a point or two for being brave at the beginning.

Sometimes I do think Bernie was right about random sprinklers to spice things up!

The timing of the SC was unlucky for Lando, but McLaren really should have just pitted him anyway given how obviously a SC it was. Unless they were scared of the Red Flag?

Doubt it made the difference though. Max was quick enough to get back ahead even if we has second at the restart. At least they forced him to work today. A far more deserved win than we usually see

Lando, Piastri and George all shot themselves in the foot today.

Even had they worked together though, I think Max just had too much. He's a tough nut to crack.

Imo the second safety car helped a lot but Russell planking it when he was chasing was crucial

Good race, they let max pinch it but a great drive from him so well done to him.

    Perez <laugh>

    Ferrari <yikes>

Merc pace legit this weekend but think Ferrari will jump them in Barcelona, but that track will tell us a lot!

Yeah, Barca should be a more traditional race in theory.

Mervs have been tragic at times so why Canada suited I don't know ( bar the track has no rubber down due to new surface and constant rain)

    Well that was fun.

You can tell a lot about F1 drivers when conditions are tricky and on that basis it’s clear Logan Seargent has no place in F1, if Merc are serious about putting Antonelli in their car, they could do a whole lot worse than, buying that seat for him and giving him half a season’s practice.

There was a point just before the second safety car where I think we saw the future of F1 with Verstappen, Norris, Russell and Piastri all running in close formation. It felt like Max or Lando could have won today, but George alway seemed like there was a few percent missing. Credit has to go to Max who thought his way through the race perfectly and seemed to learn from the first stint to ultimately get the upper hand on Lando. Once again I do think that GP and Hannah Schmitz also deserve a lot of credit for their part in timing the crucial stop perfectly and tipping the scales their way.

From a season perspective the Ferrari implosion, combined with Max winning a race that should have been hard for Red Bull, has rather dented what was looking like becoming a fight. On the other hand McLaren really do look like they are there with RedBull if that continues at Barcelona then it’s game on - on a race by race basis and with McLaren having two drivers who are performing and so many races to go then Lando may well make things difficult for Max over the rest of the year.

Fair enough - it seems that George and Hamilton like similar things in a car, so I don’t think there’s much need for Merc to develop the car towards one driver, they just need to keep making it quicker for both. I do think George deserves more credit - we cut Hamilton a lot of slack because it’s understandable that it’s hard for him to motivate himself to fight for anything that isn’t a win - but George’s promotion to the big time I’m sure I has been less than he expected - he had a shocker last year, but he’s kept his head down, his mouth shut taken his opportunities and generally shaded his far more illustrious teammate.

Hamilton was playing dogems for much of 2009-2013 and went on to win 6 more championships, scrappy cars breed scrappy performances quite often, doesn’t mean he’s an awful F1 driver even if he isn’t a great one.

Perez getting a fine and a 3 place grid drop for driving a severely damaged car back to the pits on the orders of Red Bull so they didn’t bring out a safety car.

Sergio Perez has been hit with a three-place grid penalty for the Spanish Grand Prix after he was judged to have driven back to the pits with a "significantly damaged car" in Montreal.

In what has been a nightmare Canadian Grand Prix weekend for the Mexican, Perez had spun off on Lap 53 of the race and damaged his rear wing, before managing to limp back to the pit lane and retire.

However, after being summoned to the stewards following the race in Montreal, he has now been hit with the penalty after it was determined he had continued for the remainder of that lap with a "significantly damaged car" that "lost several carbon fibre parts on the way back to the pits."

Red Bull have also been fined €25,000 over the incident with the team confirming in the post-race hearing that Perez had been advised to bring the car back to the pits as they were trying to avoid a Safety Car, with his team mate Max Verstappen going on to win the race.’

Blimey, a three place grid drop means he'll definitely start last in Spain then.

I've seen plenty of drivers continue on to the pits with huge bits of bodywork hanging off, and I don't remember hearing him get a message from race control, or seeing him receive a meat-ball flag, so that's a bit unfair afaic. Punish the team for their decision, not the driver.
