As far as I can make out, we're still missing a LB.....

Yes we are. I think that wenger must feel we have some depth to cover that position.

Gibbs, Traore and emergency cover Vermaelen.

    I'm still not convinced.

Gibbs has been awful in pre season. He seems to have zero idea on where to where to position himself when we are defending. Also he commits far too much in attack but that could also be because Wenger tells him to do that. Which is stupid beyond belief as we have no cover for the counter attack most of the time. Gibbs for me was starting to hit form and show his talent in the middle of the 09/10 season. Clichy was out with a back problem and Gibbs filled in to great effect. He was outstanding against Wolves away and also Standard Liege at home. Sadly, that was the game where some thug broke his metatarsals and Gibbs has never found the same form again.

We are not in a moment where we can give these players a chance anymore. Wenger is under serious pressure and so are Arsenal as a club. Fans and media will use this as another stick to beat Wenger with. The guy is just asking for trouble by not buying a new LB. Sometimes i wonder if Wenger really cares what fans think these days.

So he's just like Clichy was then.

In some aspects, yes. But Gibbs is better in the air and is a better footballer than Clichy. Gael was an athletic who made it as a footballer. Gibbs was a winger in his youth days and has loads of technical ability. Also he played in midfield for the England under 21's and was outstanding. But like Clichy he gets caught out in defence. Gibbs is still meant to be learning the role unlike Clichy who was doing it for 7 years or so and was still making mistakes.

If we have any problems at LB this season, Wenger is going to get crucified.

I hope I'm wrong, but at the moment, not replacing Clichy just looks negligent.

So we sell an experienced LB and play a converted left winger who has little experience not only playing as a LB, but in the premier league in general? To make matters worse, Wenger is thinking of playing Vermaelen as LB cover (yes Wenger we have great strength and depth already in the CB department) and a lad called Jenkinson, who has little experience of professional football and is a makeshift LB at that? Is he suicidal or something?

Am i missing something or is Arsenal a top prem side as well as a top Champions League side that we need to play makeshift LBs???!!??!

we need to buy another LB, enrique, baines (unlikely) or even bridge, as gibbs is not ready to be first choice

Baines is too expensive, Bridge is too old. Enrique is the only option from within the Premiership who'se available.

I can see Arsene not buying, and possibly starting with Traore. He's over 6ft and has had a year of learning to defend in Italy, as opposed to at Portsmouth where he played as a winger.

He's looked OK in pre-season, and if he can remain a defender first and attack as a 2nd priority he could do very well. He's got the athleticism :)

Gibbs has a bright future, but looks unconvincing. He needs a solid run, but can't get that with all his injury problems. He may surprise us and stake his claim as 1st choice this season, but I can see it being Traore who plays most of the season if no-one is brought in.

Gibbs could be good, as someone else said he's been out for a while so pre season is mainly him getting use to the team and to playing again, so come the season he could be alot better

and traore would help solve our height issues and set piece as hes what, 6 1 6 2

    We should play

    -----------sznezneznkeznkeznkey
    Eboue--sagna--Koshielny--Djourou---Vermaelean---Traore---Gibbs
    -----------Song----------Frimpong
    ------------------Walcott

defend like **** an hook it for walcott to chase!
