Just wondered if people knew what the rules are in regards to away supporters sitting with home supporters in the Medway Stand? Considering we are supposed to be a family friendly club and that every football fan is not deemed to be a criminal (cough), I would be interested in views. Obviously I have seen in the past travelling supporters sitting in the Medway Stand, some in the lower tier showing their club colours and also it can sometimes get a bit over exuberant in the upper tier, so just wondered what is the general rule. Whilst on the topic, I notice the Cricks state home supporters only and sometimes ST holders only (although I've never seen that latter rule applied), does anyone know if 'friendly' away supporters showing club colours can get in there if accompanied by Gills fans?
I was once turned away from the cricketers for not having neither a Gills ticket or shirt on me... Thought that was pretty pathetic but after some persuading they let me in... they seem very strict down there.
Im surprised a pub would discriminate against away fans or in Batchinators case. I can understand they don't want any trouble but providing they keep an eye on things, surely taking more money behind the bar can only be a good thing? Its easy for me to say this as I've never actually been in the cricketers as I usually go in the Blues bar for my pre-match drinks. I suppose you could always try the Livingstone instead, accepting of both home and away fans and generally nice and friendly environment to drink in.
Yeah, I never thought of the Livingstone as an alternative. Never been in there but obviously easy walking distance of the ground. Has anyone on here been in the Livingstone on match day's as I believe it is technically the away supporters pub. As much detail as possible would be appreciated on the whole topic. Thanks.
I went in there a couple of years ago with my Dad, seemed quite a nice pub. Loads of Gills shirts hanging about the place but bar staff seemed really friendly and the regular Gills fans would mix in quite happily with the away fans. I know it gets advertised as the away fans pub but they accept both sets of fans. It did seem a good atmosphere in there and generally a good rapport between both sets of fans in the pub. I remember my Dad quite liked it in there and we would probably go in again. I can't remember what they had on tap though I'm afraid, but you won't get any trouble in there if you are thinking of taking a non-Gills fan in there.
Sounds good, will certainly keep the place in mind. As you say don't want no aggro just want a place that will allow meets with away fans, both in our own colours, that's not to far from the ground. Just thinking ahead for the new season. Will certainly have to give the place a look in sometime even if it is not with away supporters.
A couple of seasons ago saw two escorted from Medway to away supporters end they were cheering for the opposing team (can't remember who it was Throwoff may recall) R
I know some Charlton fans were kicked out in 2010? The game where John Nutter scored a great own goal
That was Charlton, we also had that dappy cow sat next to me in a Norwich shirt with a jacket over it who got moved at half time after her 'suffering' (he looked like he was) husband began to feel the urge to defend her from the masses shouting at her for cheering the wrong team. Silly sods.
I can remember the Leed's game and there was supporters dotted all about in the Medway Stand around me, proudly wearing their colours, I think I might even have a picture from that game to prove it. Strangely enough the stewards did not appear to move them, even when they were getting a little vocal. I even had a Leed's supporter sitting in the seat next to me, openly admitting it and restraining himself well during the game. He then turned round to me and said, oh that's a couple of his lads at the back being vocal, seeming concerned but embarrassed at the same time. At the final whistle before I even had chance to thank him for the three points he'd gone - lol However, these same stewards would quite happily remove a can a drink from a young child or maybe an opposition supporter that I might want to sit with at the game, hence my original question. So the rules are slightly confusing on the topic.
