From the Echo: SUNDERLAND are looking at ways of moving away fans to a different part of the Stadium of Light after concerns were raised separately by owner Ellis Short and manager Steve Bruce. Away fans are currently housed behind the goal in the South Stand, but there has long been a view that the travelling fans to Wearside are given far too prominent a place in the ground. And now the club plans to look at the viability of shifting away supporters to a different section of the stadium. Chairman Niall Quinn revealed: ââ¬ÅIt is something we are looking into, we will look into how we might do it. ââ¬ÅBut it isnââ¬â¢t straightforward by any means because, when the place was built, it was specifically designed the way it is and a big change like this would be quite complicated and potentially very costly. ââ¬ÅThere are prison cells in the away section which would need to be moved, the police monitoring system is directly above the away fans and that would have to be moved, too. ââ¬ÅThere are also things to look at like changes to drainage, access, the possible installation of lifts and safety issues. ââ¬ÅAs things stand, the ground completely complies with safety standards and any changes would mean those standards would have to be looked at afresh.ââ¬Â About time too I say. Look at where we are shoved at Sid James Park.
Good news and about time ! There's nothing worse than either a mass of empty seats behind the goal or seeing the away fans celebrating when they score ! Get em moved to somewhere more inconvenient for them !
I have the answer, charge them ã10.00 extra per ticket and bus them to one of the pubs showing doddgy tv links, not a good one mind. Throw in a packet of pork scratchings, greggs pastie for the mags, and all will be fine.
To give the Mags fans the equivalent view that they give us we would have to put some seating on top of Tunstall Hills!!!
agree , why give the away team an advantage . Sick them up in the high heavens far away from the pitch as possible .
I think I may be the only person who thinks they are fine where by they are for a couple of reasons. 1) It will need money to change the stadium around, ie. Cells, CCTV, Coach park etc. 2) I believe it will actually make the atmosphere worse. The only area in the ground that really sings is the SW Corner. The people in this area go there purposely because they are near the away fans and can have some banter and a bit of a sing. Moving the away fans upstairs will surely mean these fans either move up there too, or stay where they are without the banter. I am not really fussed about the empty seats on TV. Couldn't care less what others think, and if we are successful on the field we will be filling those seats that are currently segregation anyway!
