I have to say, as much as I enjoy watching some of our play these days, I am finding it increasingly frustrating that we are in almost every game the better team, yet invariably always come away with no more than one point. We were totally in control, scored and created three more good chances in the first 15 minutes, then Dawson let Dyer come inside and Mannone failed to deal with a shot across him. Two minutes later, Marshall let fly with a speculative effort from 30 yards which hit one of our players and sailed over Mannone into the net. They had about another 5 minutes of pressure and then we were back in control. At that point, they had had two shots and scored twice. We controlled the rest of the game, they had two or three chances late on when they broke as we were pushing defenders forward in an attempt to equalise. As soon as they were reduced to 10, I said that's the worst thing that could have happened and it was, they just got everyone behind the ball and we couldn't find a way through. I don't understand why Evans was played in the Koren role and Cairney alongside McKenna, when I would have thought it would have worked much better with Cairney in the hole. I also thought Mckenna was poor again today, worse than Tuesday and I would have taken him off rather than Cairney and brought Evans back still. Not surprisingly two games a week looks to be taking it's toll. King looks a real prospect, Stewart had a better game than recently but was still way below the player we saw last season. Rosenior was better than the other night but was still well below his best. We really could do to freshen things up a bit but I guess there aren't too many other options. Having said all that, we were still by far the better team again today but got undone by one instance of poor defending, a fluke deflection and our own inability to put the ball in the back of the net. Amazingly, despite our results, we are still in touch and on paper have a relatively easy run in, so who knows but we're going to have to find away of scoring more regularly!
While yes you had alot of pressure Kasper didnt have anything to do, when ever we got the ball we used it well and looked like we could score
Spot on.^^^ this. imo,, it sums up the current situation perfectly and the Lesta game. 2 wins next week and the picture changes again. The results also went for us and Hull City fans need to think on this more. It could be much much worse. You could be a West Ham fan. Oh how i am looking forward to that game. The hammers are most certainly wobbling.
They're not wobbling as much as we are, we've lost the last two, won one game in the last eight and we've dropped to 18th in the form table.
I thought we were pretty poor to be honest. Fryatt's goal was good, but they came back into it well, even if the second was jammy. In the 2nd half, after we had the header off the line and the red card, we never created anything guilt edged. Same old City. Away support was great. Crackin turnout.
Agree, but you can't win games without scoring, our form is very poor, results don't lie, we are not a good team! 18th in the form table reflects our performances. We are in crisis upfront and don't deserve the credit some people are throwing about. My prediction some months ago was 9th, I think that's probably generous.
its amazing how fans can see a different match according to what side they are on. Just how you were the better team I don't know. You were for 15 minutes, then we scored twice, then it was even until half time, then we we were on top until danns got sent off, then you hit the post, then you passed sideways a lot, stewart did some fancy stepovers and we still looked like the only team who would score despite having 10 men and just beckford in your half. Oh and if that left back clown plays against dyer again please dont tell him hes left footed, it was ****ing hilarious watching him get skinned on the inside everytime lol. despite this season not being the success we all hoped for we have beaten derby twice, saints twice, thrashed brum at home, beat cov twice and now beaten dull, home forms picking up, and ben marshall has arrived- two cracking goals in a week. good luck hull, you will need it, your attacking play was woeful, all your MFs are the same, we have drinkwater and marshall who are creative, the only real threat for you came from king who looked good. I actually cant believe we are still in with a shout, of course we wont make it as infortuantely we cannot convince the football league to play all our remaining games at home, but alas its been entertaining, unlike your glut of goalless games.
leicester looked more like scoring even after 10 men , they went clean through....possesion stats are misleading, possesion on the edge of your own box to the halfway line and then back to your box is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things... what i couldnt believe is pearson left 2 strikers on after the red card for a bit, and it took till the 84th minute for the rather obvious mclean for a midfielder switch, it appears our managers had some sort of bodyswap...
You don't define your season on the form table though OLM. All that does is look at the last six games. You could be top, 20 points clear and then lose your next six games. You would be bottom of the form table, but still top of your league. The one thing with form is that it always comes to an end.
It's the last eight games and there's only eight games left, are you expecting a dramatic change? I've seen nothing to suggest one. I'm not really bothered, we've played some decent stuff this season, it's been disappointing over the past month or so, but I'm happy to strengthen in the summer and push on again last season. I'm not really complaining, I'm just stating the facts.
We've just played our hardest run of fixtures in the whole season! We have played 8 games in month! All apart from King who has gone he other way, the lads are starting to look jaded. We have lost two games in those 8. To the league leaders and Leicester, who lets face, we all knew would be a harder side to beat once Pearson was giving the time to build a team. I didn't really expect much from these games, it's the next 8. Just hope the lads show a bit more energy then they have done. 2 defeats and all of sudden we're a bad side!
Afraid the lasting memory wont be the very good Fryatt goal. Leicester's resolute defence. Brady’s header saved on the line. Really thinking we would score even when I remembered Koren wasn't there to save us. The comical callers on the local BBC radio station who actually came close to being as comical as radio Humberside. Particularly the one who felt there was a conspiracy theory Rosenior had been sent off for an extremely rash challenge last season and he had the temerity to approach the referee so he was the reason Dann was sent off. Nothing at all to do with the referee making a split second decision on an off the ground challenge then. no all this pales into insignificance against the shear embarrassing awfulness that is the "a morbidly obese virgin in his 40s with a ...... drum" No He is a complete and utter .....please feel free to use the adjective of choice.
But will we strengthen in the summer? Other teams could come calling for our players and it could end up being hard to say no. Of course there could be a 'dramatic change' playing Portsmouth and Coventry is alot different to playing Southampton and Leicester. I would say, if we don't get more than 3 points from the next two games, we should all agree our season is pretty much over - even with the amount of teams playing each other.
so what ? who gives a feck about the form table. Hammers are wobbling. just ask there fans for starters.
Form table's pretty relevant when we are talking about needing to win games! Excuse the cliche but the next 2 games are must win and if 6 points are not achieved then I will be looking to book a week abroad rather than a weekend near Wembley!
What a load of bollocks. Of course form is important. If you're higher up the form table, the more confident you are, the lower down the more down on your luck you feel, maybe feel sorry for yourself. We need a performance & a win to get us out of this little rut.
The doctor has ordered a gritty win tomorrow followed by a convincing performance and win on saturday
I'm in two minds over Pompey. I can't believe they beat Brum and by that many, but then they got beat by Coventry. They seem to be a bit Jekyll and Hyde at the minute. I'd take two good performances and 4 points. Maximum points would be fantastic obviously.
There's no definitive points return needed because it depends on how our rivals get on but if we are serious about promotion this season then 6 points from Pompy & Cov is a must, surely?
