Rovers are getting fantastic attendance support considering our lowly position in the football leagues (note the use of the lower case f and l).
More often than not our home gates are bigger than most of the FL clubs in the third and fourth tier.
Out of interest I have drawn a comparison with our third division FL neighbours who are riding high at the top of their league.
Note that the comparison is not just about numbers, but also takes into account the distance the fans must travel to and from away matches.

    Rovers Away................... Number............Return Distance

    Barnet.......................,,,,.... 663................. 230.. midweek
    Altrincham ........................ 376 ................ 310
    FGR... ............................ 1886 ................. 60.. midweek
    Braintree ........................,. 565 ................ 350
    Lincoln ............................. 211 ................ 360
    Southport ......................... 367................. 370
    Eastleigh........................... 996................. 200.. midweek

    Total.............................. 5064................ 1880

    Ave supporters per game 723

    City Away

    Sheff. Utd.......................... 665............... 350
    Rochdale........................... 791................ 378
    Notts Co........................... 918................. 284
    Fleetwood......................... 895................ 428
Port Vale........................... 421................ 264........ Mid week

    Total................................ 3690.............. 1704

    Ave per game 738

    Overall Comparison........................ CITY.... ROVERS

    Total Away Fans............................. 3690.... 5064
    Total Miles Travelled....................... 1704.... 1880
Ratio of fans per mile travelled......... 2.17.... 2.70
    Highest Attendance......................... 918.... 1886

Last Five Games Comparison.................. CITY.... ROVERS

    Total Away Fans ................................... 3690.... 4025 ... City 9.08 percent less
    Total Miles Travelled.............................. 1704.... 1340 ...
Ratio of fans per mile travelled ............... 2.17.... 3.00 ... City 38.25 percent less
    Highest Attendance................................ 918.... 1886 ... City 51.33 percent less

Note that Rovers have had three midweek games to the single game for City

I would appreciate that any comments do not include the original message or the thread will become unmanageable.

My thanks to CJS for help with the stats.

I just want to make a couple of points here.

I hope people dont see this as a Rovers vs City thread but instead understand and respect that this thread is about our away support.

City has just been used as they are Currently top of League 1 and the thread is about comparing our support with the 2 leagues above us (L1 & L2) and considering our away form in recent seasons has been shocking, to get these sorts of numbers on the road when I thought personally that numbers would drop because we fell out of the Football League and people would have had enough and would give up, I think this is fantastic stuff from our fans and something we should be proud of as a club.

Also to point out that obviously people havent seen the PM's between myself and Sapphire about these stats so would presume thise is a wum against City. I can confirm it is very clear from Sapphires PMs that he wasnt trying to make it s Rovers vs City thread so I hope people believe this and respect this. Sapphire asked me to help find attendances because only in the odd match report on our OS shows the attendances from travelling gasheads and he knew that I would know where the details are, so I pointed this out to him and also City has a very good page on their OS which shows there away figures all in one place. Very simple stuff and I wish Rovers OS could be the same!!

City have a better average per game over us but only just. Remember mind we have played 2 more away than City so when City play these 2 away games you may find that average drop below ours or increase further. I expect it to increase further because I been told tickets for Walsall been selling very well.

But our away attendance figures is very close to matching the current best team in League 1 and if you compare their only 5 away games to date and our last 5 away games then we top them! We certainly smash the hell out of most L1 teams and nearly all L2 teams. Again this is top stuff from the loyal travelling gas faithful. I can only praise them. If I was able to attend away games myself like I use to do, im not sure if I would have been going anyway due to relegation and recent seasons form on the road so fair shout to the gasheads who have done our club proud.

Just shows the club that if they try and give a damn, we will turn up home and away to be the 12th man.

Yeah course it is.! I await to see the same comparison at the end of the season...

Why be like this? I just dont get.

Those stats shown above shows you have a better average than us. I also said that your away support tomorrow will be high and will increase your average gate further. No disrespect have been shown towards City in anyway. Its just a thread showing stats that put us close to the team who are currently the best team in League 1. I even said that above too. I think I been totally respectful here with these words and Sapphire even asked at the bottom of his thread not to think this is a Rovers vs City thread.

Think what you like Banksy. Its never stopped you before and I dont doubt whatsoever that will ever change. No matter what I or anyone else says. Just hoped that some understanding would have been shown instead of automatically thinking the worse that everything must be some sort of wum and some sort of point scoring going on.

Ah whats the point. Its been explained twice, if you still think the same then fair enough. Thanks for your contribution anyway though <ok>

It was on a monday but yes a bank holiday.

So on that theory, if Sapph used another team then that would have been a dig at them? You were used for 1 reason only which has been stated. Why wum you when the stats actually show you have a better average than us? Thats not a wum is it! Thats just like wumming you for being 2 leagues above us - doesnt make sense does it.

"I know lets takes the piss out of City for being better than us" <laugh> Think about it ROD!

Our away support was compared to the best team in league 1 currently. Im sure Sapphire will do the same again later in the season regardless who is top of league 1 which looks like will be you again the rate your team is going <ok>

Also you know me that I prefer banter etc on the banter thread. If this was banter I would have said to Sapphire to put this on the banter thread. Also im sure Sapphire would have put it on your board where he would get maximum bites if that was his intention.

These stats is just to show how great our away support have been. Im proud of the travelling gasheads. I didnt expect anywhere near half of what we been getting!

Great stats and an excellent demonstration of the strength of our travelling support - brilliant stuff Gasheads!

Quite surprised at the Ted stats, thought they'd be better for an established 3rd tier side who have finally found their feet at that level. 1k to Fleetwood is pretty good though - it's a helluva way.

Irrelevant, however, as 1000 Teds still equals 1000 whining ****s. :)

Ok then if it's not a dig, do it based on the last 5 games or do it tomorrow on the last 6 after we've played a game close by <ok>

The last 5 games have been done already in Sapphires post. And as for doing it tomorrow when you played your 6th away game, I have already made reference to this twice already...

This is what I said at comment 3...

"Remember mind we have played 2 more away than City so when City play these 2 away games you may find that average drop below ours or increase further. I expect it to increase further because I been told tickets for Walsall been selling very well."

This is what I said at comment 5...

"your away support tomorrow will be high and will increase your average gate further."

So I fully expect for it to rise. If Sapph wants to, maybe he can do it after every 10 games or so. I have shown him where to ge the info. It up to him when or if he does it again. I would be keen to do it again at the end of the season if Sapph or anyone else havent done so <ok>

    City Away

    Sheff. Utd.......................... 665
    Rochdale........................... 791
    Notts Co........................... 918
    Fleetwood......................... 895
    Port Vale........................... 421
    Walsall.............................1816 (Tickets sold in advance)

    Sub-Total......................... 3690
    Plus..................................1186
    Total.................................5506 divide by 6 = 917.666666 or 918..

Bristol City FC...........Average away support based on 6 games = 918 per game..
Bristol Rovers FC.......Average away support based on 7 games = 723 per game..

I'll let you work out the supporters per mile and I only put this up for the sake of comparison, no other reason and I still think your away record is remarkable for an away NON - LEAGUE Club.

Wiz <ok> Like I said earlier about your average figure.....

    Comment 3:
    Comment 5:
So we expect your figure to rise. No dispute. It will go up and down throughout the season. Just like ours. I expect ours to go up after our next away game as I expect over 1000 going to our next away game at Aldershot. However the figures by Sapph is the figures to date and we are averaging just 15 behind the best team in league 1 currently and averaging 147 more than the 2nd best team in league 1 currently <ok>

Like you said, for a non league club it is remarkable. This is exactly what this thread is about. Not a dig at City or anyone. How can we take the piss out of someones average attendance when they have a higher figure than us? Hence we aint piss taking <ok>

Fair shout to all them including City <ok>
Brilliant for Brighton considering it was on Sky and where they are in the table which is a massive disappointment to them considering they are use to being around the play offs.
Amazing for Tranmere too considering they got relegated and are 3rd bottom of league 2.
Not surprised about City as mentioned on Friday a few times. Not surprised about Sheff Utd as a bit of a derby and they usually take good numbers just like Portsmouth too <ok>

Also Banksy, I make your travelling fans yesterday made up around 35% of the attendance! <ok>

Also its good for Bristol that this weekend Rovers had the best home attendance in our league and City had the best travelling attendance in your league!
