Why do we need a striker with a 1 in 4 goal ratio from a league 2 side according to sky according to sky millwall. and ourselves after him? Clarkson or maynard possible replacement I assume.
It seems that we look for new players from at least 1 or 2 divisions below us rather that considering proven Championship or Premier league product. Now I know all the doomsayers will say that we are not prepared to pay the exotic salaries for these playersnd to some extent I agree with that policy. However if we stopped paying over the odds for some players that never get in the squad, as we have in recent years, then perhaps the reduction in player numbers might address the issue. If I'm correct it was stated many times by SL that we were over-staffed and still were not performing up to the required standard. It's a fine balance of having a squad that can not only compete but handle the loss of players through injury or suspension. For many years we have not had that requisite balance to establish ourselves as contenders in this division and I wish Milly all the best in restoring the team balance and morale. Tough job that I and most of the posters on this site would not relish so let's hope we see some positive changes to increase our potential.
I dont mind buying players of around 22 that have league experience as long as we are not looking at him to replace a proven player like Maynard. I see this young Ginger as a replacment for Akide more than someone who is going to play every week. After all its very nice having 4 or 5 strikers but you only need a long term injury and you have to loan someone.
Think he was Le Fondre's strike partner who's more of a foil/supplier than an out and out goal getter.
As a squad player or one to develop fair enough, but we need some proven quality to be brought in elsewhere
I like the idea of buying talented players from elsewhere in the Football League, and Pitman, Maynard and Adomah are two prime examples of great players for us that came from the Football League. My only issue is that, while it's a good thing to do, these players will cost money and it's not going to build a promotion-winning team. We're still yet to plug the gaps in our defence or our midfield, and as we've been too slow to act on Jones, and as we've missed out on Caulker we need to decide whether we should pay for top talent in League 1 or to pay for Premier League experienced players. I'm happy with Millen appeared to be more active in the loan market than what this club is used to, and hopefully we can build a good relationship with some more clubs and get some top talent down here.
It seems like over the last few years we have spent plenty of money on goal scoring talent. It would be nice if the board could find 3 or £4m for one last push, to be spent on the defence and the elusive midfielder. Two centre backs of the highest quality should only be about a million pounds each. We found it for players like Pitman, Stead, Mayanrd, and Trundle. Now find it for the back. A top class attacking midfielder (for many th missing piece of the puzzle) should be worth around the same. If you pay them, they will come.
