AVB wants to win Spurs first European trophy... for four decades. He sees the Europey Cup as crucial in turning Spurs from a losing club into a winning club, as the unfortunate club enters its third decade without a major trophy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19639862
Anyone that can do that doesn't deserve just a bonus or a few million a year they deserve their own Island. I'm in the lab at the moment currently working on a formula to make pigs fly but if AVB achieves his objective before I achieve mine then fair play
Yep because apart from that Valencia game at home he really spurred us (a team that saw the Champions League as the holy grail) on!
It's that problem you have with basic maths again. If you're talking decades as in 80s, 90s, etc then we've gone one without a major trophy, the 00s, two without a European trophy(90s and 00s). If you're talking about decades purely as a measure of any 10 years then it's been 28 so approaching 3 decades without a European trophy.
For us Spurs fans, you've got to understand that most of us take the Europa seriously, and see it as a competition worth winning. Harry treated it like a joke. Thing is, of course, that we have half a chance of winning the Europa, whereas you don't stand the remotest chance of getting that lucky again to with the CL. You did well last time out, but now's the time to get real, again.
Love the banter here between Tottenham and Chelsea. Regarding Tottenham's chances winning the Europa League - to go all the way is the equivalent of playing another half season of Premiership games. A very tall order. Where do your priorities lie? Teams like Atletico Madrid focus on this trophy as they know they haven't a cat in hell's chance in La Liga. To win the trophy you need to put out your strongest team even against apparent mediocre teams. Look how you came a cropper against some unknowns last season. My personal choice are Atletic Bilbao but I would rather a team win the Europa League that progresses through all the group stages than a drop out from the Champions League! If they are not good enough for the Champions League, why then are they good enough for the Europa. When the two Manchester clubs exited the tournament after dropping into it, I was quite delighted.
