Would you Adam and Eve it? Informal discussions are taking place between representatives of our dearly departed AVB and our friends from Norf London, over Arry's replacement! This, if it comes off will add, some spice to our matches with the Spuds next season , wouldn't you say!
Good luck to em. Maybe they can have him tear their dressing room apart and be a stubborn douchebag for them aswell. He was well out of his depth at Chelsea tbh, Roman and the Senior players ate him for breakfast. I think Spurs will probably suit him though, less pressure and expectation.
Be hilarious if it happens, everyone remember when HIAG tore into us/him when he was our manager? Be nice if the shoe is on the other foot
I wish him well - so I hope he doesn't end up at Spuds! He was badly let down by the senior players (and by Roman in the end) and they should be ashamed of their conduct, regardless of our eventual success under Robbie. For me, AVB fell between two stools, and once he'd decided to change the playing style and discard some of the senior players he should have gone full out for a revolution and changed things even more quickly. As it was, he kept faltering between dumping Lamps and Ashley, and then panicking and recalling them, which just undermined his position. He'll be a very good manager for someone in the future. Chelsea was probably too early for him and he didn't get anywhere near enough support from above, but I think he'll end up being a better manager for the experience.
Tottenham want AVB as he is out of a job that's the only reason because they don't want to pay a hefty compensation figure to get a manager from any club. AVB was really poor with us Chelsea with world class players at his disposal. There for I don't see him making an impact at Spuds especially when their star players Modric, Bale and Van Der Vaart are likely to follow Redknapp out the door which means they will be a lot weaker unit.
I'd love to see it. All the hypocrite Spuds that laughed him out of the house when he was with us will soon have to eat their words but the tone is soon changing now he's linked with them. He's gone from being a "clown" to now a great. Young and promising manager
Look- AVB was a fascinating bloke who did his best to produce what "GOD" wanted! At the end of the day he got his marching orders because he couldn't deliver! I reckon given a free hand to create something his best years are ahead! But at 3 Pt lane???? Dont fink so!
I can't think of a single word that I'd change in your post. You and I must be just about the only 2 fans who think AVB was shafted by RA and totally betrayed by our "senior players" who should NEVER be forgiven. If you want to know why we were 6th, point the finger directly at that lot. AVB got a very raw deal, and the mess that was created would not have spiralled out of control if he'd got some back up, which he obviously had reason to believe would happen. Don't even begin to try and tell me RA allowed AVB to go down the path he did without his approval, cause it just doesn't happen. When it really hit the fan, RA was not there to help out. As I've said before RA, Chelseas' best friend, his own worst enemy.
Ollie, I also think that AVB should be ashamed of his conduct. He obviously has zero man-management skills and is an arrogant twat who needs to learn quickly if he's going to make it.
Well, here's another who agrees too. I think we let a genuinely gifted young manager slip through our fingers and it may well bite us on the *rse.
The job came too soon for him. Another couple of years & he will be one of the best but he should never have been appointed in the first place!
He'd already won the biggest trophy in football, after being undefeated in his own domestic league. As others have mentioned player power took over and if RA had buttonholed the bully boys(Lamps & JT) he might still be here.I find it ridiculous that the owner now has to get permission from the players before he makes a mangerial appointment! If he does go to Spurs he wont get that ,but with certain key players likely to be leaving, he's going to need a big pot to spend if he's going to make an impact!
Most of the footballing world agrees that Chelsea's players and owner were in the wrong, not AVB. He could be a success at Spurs and I would have taken him at Anfield as well.
Sorry TEL that's nonsense. He was appointed to change the team and totally shafted when he did what he was hired to do. His achievements speak for themselves. He was lied to and let down by meglomaniacs whose only criteria is money. After 7 years they still don't understand that success on the football pitch is not just about the money you have. It works short term, but not long term. Our dopes have still to work that out. Truth is AVB should never have accepted the poison chalice. He was lured, lied to and shafted. Robbie has eyes wide open and I am sure he will walk, no, run , as soon as the dopes in charge stick their oars in, which mean as soon as we lose 2 games in a row. Nothing changes at Chelsea, except the name of this weeks manager. AVB will be the one to spoil our future, and good luck to him.
I think age is AVB's problem, as Tel said the job came too early for him. His man management skills weren't developed enough to take on a task like Chelsea with a dressing room full of strong characters. I don't believe it's entirely the player's fault either, you don't barge your way into a club you previously worked at (at a much lower level) and try and take full control of everything in the way he did. Less is more and AVB should've gradually made changes over the course of a few years rather than a few months whilst playing to the current squad's strengths and keeping Roman and more importantly us the fans, happy. Saying that, I do agree with CP when he says we let a manager with a lot of potential go but I truly believe had we kept him we would've finished lower than 6th with absolutely no trophies, leaving us in turmoil ergo making AVB's task much harder. Everyone's opinion seems to be either blaming it ALL on AVB or ALL on the players, we have to accept that both sides were wrong and it was in our best interests for him to leave. I guess we'll truly find out what he's like after bouncing back from his time at Chelsea.
What do you consider short term? I think we're well past the short term era and have just had, arguably, our best season trophy wise ever. The short term argument doesn't hold any water anymore.Which clubs apart from one have kept a manager for a long time and had success? So when you refer to long term which clubs have met your criteria which seems to be having a manager there for 4-5+ years and had success?
When are the press and rival fans ever right about Chelsea though? According to them: - Roman was going to sell up in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 - Carvalho leaving was going to mean Terry would be found out. - Our league title in 2005 was a one off. United and Arsenal would strengthen and reclaim their rightful place at the top. - Drogba was leaving in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. - We would never be able to win the Champions League - Our short term policy is all wrong despite nobody winning more trophies than us since the turn of the Millenia. We should be more like Arsenal who have won nothing in 7 years. - Implemtation of FFP was going to lead to our downfall - transfer embargo in 2009 was going to mean we'd finish midtable and Roman would sell up. ( we finished 1st the following season) We were too old to win the league (finished 1st the following season) - Jose was the only man that would be able to win the league for us and the CL (wrong on both counts) - Lampard was going to Inter, Real and LA Galaxy - Cole was going to Real. The list is endless, in fact I'm struggling to think of any correct prediction rival fans and pundits have ever made regarding to Chelsea. Even in 10/11 when they said we'd walk the league (first time ever) they were wrong.
