Intersting article on Skysports http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-to-having-made-mistakes-during-Chelsea-reign I like the way he comes accross in this piece, not sure how the full interview went but his relationship with the media seems to be improving.
He talked too much at Chelsea. All he has to do is shut up and let the football do the talking. I'm happy that we've been in 3rd and 4th places. Just keep quiet Andre.
Its a fine balance though. Its the media that put the questions to you, and it you don't give them enough they can easily turn on you. If you give too much you can dig your own whole.
He's made a massive mistake not hiring me for a scouting role at the club. It'll haunt him I tell you!
i dont understand what makes people think this guy was some kind of neanderthal at Chelsea..it was chelsea that brought out these things in him. He did fine at Porto with thr likes of Falcao and Hulk...they loved him..just like our players seem to. Chelsea as usual is the problem.
As an outsider, the only thing I don't understand about his time at Chelsea was his treatment of Anelka and Alex, effectively freezing them out of the first team picture. Obviously there is probably more to it than I know about, but on face value it appeared a bit petulant.
That was one of the reasons why I was so pissed off at him becoming our manager as his man management skills (or lack of) looked poor (something I thought may have affected our players as many seem to perform better with the "arm round the shoulder" approach) and then within weeks of his appointment, the news of Dawson and Huddlestone (though Hudd looks a shadow of the player he once was) being shafted felt like deja vu. Luckily (and happily) Daws has shown AVB what he was missing out on at the start of the season by leaving him out and seems that Daws is now infront of both Gallas and Caulker in the CB pecking order. I'm a massive Daws fan and I honestly think he'll happily finish his career here providing he's able to get a decent amount of game time. AVB does show a willingness to learn and I like that in a manager, also enjoy his interviews as he seems to have a dry sense of humour, he's impressed me in recent weeks and long may it continue.
I saw a Chelsea fan had added a comment and actually thought it might be to show some insight. More fool me
Yeah, having worse players definitely helps. He's only a point off what he had with Chelsea last season so we can't be much worse, I expect we'll be doing much better with him than you were by the time your player rovolt kicked in and messed everything up.
Unfortunately, a prerequisite for an ability to show insight is the possession of more than two functioning brain cells. As with the vast majority of his ilk, that is not the case here.
hes had no problems with the likes of Falcao,Hulk,Bale etc......so maybe that is not it toress big player
His brief at Porto was not to overhaul the side or get rid of the likes Falcao and Hulk...Chelsea brought it out in him??, come on SL you can't honestly believe that. You place a lot of faith in the word 'seem'.
I'm not sure AVB made mistakes at Chelsea. He was bold enough to tackle the issue Benitez and any subsequent manager needs to address- how to move on from the team of Cole, Terry, Lampard and Drogba. It's notable this season how ordinary Chelsea are in defence, midfield and attack in the absence of these players. He took a radical approach, which backfired because these players held the balance of power over their young manager. With hindsight, he will be remembered as naive rather than brave, but you can't say his philosophy was mistaken- he was never given the chance to see it through.
Well said Luke. It's a shame that not one section of the media has acknowledged this about AVB's Chelsea career, he is judged entirely for his on-field results in a 6 month period.
The best way he can answer his critics, and that is to get lowly Spurs (in comparison to the might that is CFC) in the CL, for next season. That's all I want from him.
