Much has been said about the austerity measures that are being endured by all but the very rich in Britain being a necessary measure that is also happening in all parts of the globe. However, after watching the World Cup, many nations, including other European, seem to have tens of thousands of fans who can afford the costs. This is certainly not the case for England who seem to have the fewest number of travelling fans that I have ever seen them have at any major tournament in my life time.
Its a pretty good point, costs a lot of money to go half way round the world to watch football! Saying that, being English, we probably pay twice as much for everything from food to hotels. The gits.
I would have thought that the Dutch and Germans would be in the same boat though, yet they seem to have many more fans who have afforded the costs..
According to one report i seen we outnumbered the Italians 10-1 in the stadium but all the Neutrals were supporting Italy, hence why it sounded like it was an Italy home match. And the teams that have loads of fans have been central/south American teams from what I could tell.
According to what I heard and read, we had no more than 3 or 4 thousand fans at that opening game. This is far lower than I have ever saw for an opening game in my life time, and certainly nowhere near what the Germans, Dutch or even the USA had for their opening games.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jefffic...t-buyers-of-world-cup-tickets-outside-brazil/ According to that we are 5th with 57,000 tickets Brazil USA Argentina Germany Beat us, but 3rd and 4th just by a few thousand. Remember our opening game was 3,000 miles from anywhere and its supposed to be really hard to get to, road or boat is the prefered way, maybe we will see more England fans at the next game.
Maybe the England fans don't want to graft their arses off to travel half way around the world only to be slagged off on camera by pig ignorant England players?
The price of departing from Heathrow as opposed to from Paris, Berlin or Amsterdam is outrageous, this greed on the airport taxes will **** this country just as badly as the banking crisis once people start moving from London to Amsterdam and taking advantage of the incrediblely affordable and accessible office space being built around Schipol & the City. Yet the government proposes yet more taxes on airlines, the backwards ****ing idiots.
You edited that from before. Austerity means the Government limits spending so they can put more into paying off debts.
TBH mate, I think the England thing is a non-starter for a lot of people in this Country now, coupled with the crap overrated footballers that represent us. I do bet also that the majority of those in Brasil will be from the South, probably Surrey and Kent and half of them wouldn't have been to a Prem game or any game this last season..
I thought tonight's game was pretty poor to be honest, although the tournament as a whole has been excellent so far.
Could be worse lads.. you could be living in Perth! Most expensive place to get anywhere from ****ing here!
Take a look at the flags , that gives you a Clue where the fans come from , see a lot from Kettering and Northampton and other English backwaters where they care more about England and don't generally follow a local team that is anywhere near the premiership.
