Rickie being candid on his move to Saints, Nicola Cortese, Alan Pardew, Nigel Adkins, Mauricio Pochettino and life at Southampton through the years.

There's a particularly good story on Mauricio and how he approached working with the group, but Rickie is also very honest about the move to Liverpool and what happened after leaving Saints.

Really good listen - 20 mins. Definitely find some time to listen to it.

Good one. I like that those people who were not quite appreciated at times got Rickie's appreciation. Thanks for linking it DTLW.

Lovely piece. When he is talking about the link up with Lallana and Rodriguez it gives me goose-bumps. I am old enough to have realised at the time we were watching something special. Nice to know he thought so too. Great lad. Has he signed yet?

Great interview and interesting to hear him being grateful to all his managers. Interesting to hear about Pardew....too often we only hear negative things (generally from people who are only reporting things second hand). It is sad to realise how quickly he realised what he had sacrificed in order to be a spare part at Liverpool. Nice anecdote about Poch. Great times...let's hope we see such times again.

    Thanks, Rickie.

Excellent interview. I remember writing on here at the time when the and Lallana were considering leaving, that they won't realise how special it was until its too late. Obviously Lallana has had more success but it would be interesting to get his take on it too. As for Rodriguez, well the injury was just such bad luck.

Every word Rickie speaks increases my love for him. His place in the Saints pantheon was cemented years ago, but that interview moves him up the order a few places.

Thank you Rickie, and please come back to us soon.

If Nige has ever had enough being the main man, I think he'd be great working with the youth sides. Rickie as Striker coach. Bring the dream team back!

I got the impression that RL regrets leaving us.

We all regret the passing of good times, but I think he had higher hopes of the move to Liverpool. He never played enough to make his mark and, although he was a great player, he really clicked at Saints.....the right people at the right time.....thanks in large part to Nicola. Perhaps it was better that SRL moved on rather than had an inevitable slide at Saints....we will never know. They were great times to be a Saints player or fan....let's hope we have more.

More than anything this interview highlights the pivotal role that psychology plays in sport. If as a team you already believe you are going to win, you are far more likely to. If as an individual you already believe that you are going to score, you are far more likely to. Rickie said a couple of really telling things. Firstly about how everyone realised how special that particular set up was, most notably how the Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert trio was capable of scoring at any time. He went on to state that he believed he was the best in the country - really believed it, and used that as a spur when he was up against the very best. A fascinating interview which goes some way to showing why our current crop are struggling. They don't have the same belief that's for sure.

Yeah he gets that extra bit out of his players.

It's where Fergie was so good too.

That struck me at his speech at Kelvs testimonial... and he was contracted to someone else then too!

His time with us was his swansong and in some ways poetic, he was born a red and loved being at the club for at least a small part of his career, he can now say he played for and scored for his boyhood club.
    Nice one Rickie.
