http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24056430 The above link is for an article about attendances/prices, as we have been running the experiment with the townend do you think it has worked, and should it be rolled out to the rest of the ground. Yesterday the townend had quite a few supporters but few who had paid, along with the medway stand there were a lot of freebies handed out for yesterdays game. With the pre-matchday £15 ticket, unrestricted seating for season tickets, has this encouraged floods of supporters, sadly I think the answer is no, at most games we struggle to see 50 people in the townend. When people are questioned about our attendances they always come up with the high price, can't sit with their mates type arguments, unfortunately the club have tried to answer these areas and yet it has failed to make any difference to our attendances. What chance of seeing the experiment extended?
Que ST Holders...lol...seriously though, I've always supported all sorts of incentives at the club, however, I lost some of my goodwill just before the start of the new season and I'm still waiting for a reply from the club, Paulo or PS in regards to my email. The reason the club will not make a difference to their attendances is because they treat their week in week out supporters in a way that p's me right off. We are their marketing tool the club needs to open it's eyes and issue an apology for the preseason fiasco. In the last two home games they have not checked id but its not the point. Scally can give as many tickets away that he likes but we will still be the only supporters there and paid on a cold winters night.
The club tweeted the attendance for the PNE game today: Gillingham FC ‏@TheGillsFC 2h Our official attendance from Saturday's game against @pnefc was 7054 (301 Preston) #gills I did reply asking how many free tickets made up that number?...I've posted their response below and I'm not talking about my signature lol...
It beggars belief that free tickets were given away for the match against Preston. 1. Scally was probably sharpening the axe for a while before it came down on Allen - therefore he would have known about the timing of the offer of free tickets - and- 2. With a new 'manager' in charge there would probably have been more interest for some to attend, and pay for the Preston game. 3. much more importantly Tomorrow is a Champions League night. THIS will have an effect on the gate ( will be under 5000 ) because of the attraction on offer on the television - surely a better time to offer the 'incentive' of free admission to tempt people out of their armchairs - it was a 'no - brainer' to accept the freebies on Saturday - then catch up on the Premier League on MOTD.
