Why do we persist in lying about the number of people attending our home games, 28k+ v. Derby and 27k+ v. QPR? To anyone who has regularly gone to home games since we moved to CCS it must be blatantly obvious that there were nowhere near that many people at those games. By way of comparison, when we were in the Prem and getting 26k+ it would take nearly 45 minutes to get out of the ground, get back to the car and eventually get off Hadfied Road on to the link road to Culverhouse. For both the Derby and QPR games I was home at Bridgend by 5.45 - less than 50 minutes after the final whistle. It would be nearer 6.15 2 seasons ago. Clearly there are not so many people around. Have the traffic movement systems improved, are more people taking the train/public transport or people staying behind at the ground to enjoy post match entertainment? No is the answer to all 3 questions. I know the top tier of the Ninian has been open - not fully and not fully occupied in the sections open but that has been 2/3rds full at best and there are other large seating gaps all over the stadium, grandstand top tier for instance. My best guess for the true attendances would be about 22k for Derby and 20k last Saturday. I guess some people with free tickets didn't turn up - tickets free and they probably found better things to do - and all ST holders are counted whether they are there or not. But what is the value or purpose in declaring an attendance that has no basis in reality? Another good example was the last home home of last season v. Blackpool when I think 26k was declared. Lol!!! It was nearer 18k against an already relegated side. Any thoughts gentlemen/ladies?
It's obvious that all the free tickets given out doesn't materialise into actual attendance, though I suaspect most of the season ticket holders are taking their seats for the run in. I think your suggested figures for the Derby and QPR games are around the mark - nothing like the near capacity crowds of two years back in the Prem. The way "official" attendance figure are promoted as fact is ludicrous, but until the rules are changed to actually count bums on seats, they should continue to be taken with a very large pinch of salt.
mad init in the days when I was a regular at ninian park they would do the complete opposite and claim only four or five thousand was there when you clearly had less room around on the terraces putting the attendance at around 7--8 maybe more..........maybe its for offshore bank reasons this time rather than onshore reasons like in the ninian years ........................remember our qpr fa cup money going missing...........all cash in them days init
Bfb I was still stuck on Hadfield Road at 5.45 - traffic wasnt going anywhere. How the heck did you get to Bridgend by then (I know your secret parking/getaway space) And there was this bloke on the Radio Wales phone in, ringing in from the Cardiff Airport Departure Lounge, at that time giving his report/views on the game and I was thinking WTF how did he get there with this traffic! Must have left early. Anyway you know the attendance was overstated by at least two people as they lost the free tickets you gave them. Bet if they paid for them they wouldnt have been lost
Martin - as usual you're talking round, hairy dangly bits!!! You really do need to get your facts right and see the bigger picture. I was home at 5.45 last Saturday, ask Sue. I didn't use Hadfield Road to leave. I parked by the Cornwall, for the pre-arranged pre-match drink - which no other bugger turned up for!!!! and went home via Grangetown and the link road to the M4. No problems!!! If the bloke on Radio Wales was at the airport then it was just about possible if he went the same way as me and turned off for Leckwith/Dinas etc. The attendance was over stated by at least 6k and I really don't understand why?
Aber.... not sure when you are talking about. But I do know there was a big police investigation some years ago because there was a ring of turnstile guys pocketing entrance monies. This would be about 1992 or so. Then again, that wouldn't have amounted to a huge lot of fans.
hiya ffb im not sure totally but I think it was around the 88-89 season and it give the lucky robber 50odd grand..............trouble is when cash changes hands it only needs a dishonest link in the chain in ews iz fkd.......look what the lawyers, bankers, politicians and high end earners do with thy ill gotten riches, its a tragic greedy fking life for some I tell thee
aha.... the two events are different then. I was talking about turnstile operators pocketing cash paid at the gate. There was a ring but it meant the attendance was understated but also the club lost a packet. I think Karen Brady was CEO at the time? There were plainclothes police watching and counting at every turnstile.
talking about losing a packet>>>the tax payer must have been hit by having a pig in blankets watching each slight of hand.....pity they wasn't watching thatcher and saville brigade at the time init <morals hey>............talking about taxes the same appears 2 be true today>>>the mass number of hrmc workers working on catching the small time tax crooks and a small team working on catching thy bigger cats.....I fking wonders why
Here we are - taken from footballsite.co.uk ; Saturday January 6th 1990 was a great day for Cardiff City. Their FA Cup Third Round tie against Queens Park Rangers saw them bank record club record receipts for a match at Ninian Park - £50,517.75. Well, they would have banked it on Monday but sadly for Cardiff's bank balance thieves broke into the safe over the weekend and pinched the lot!
cheers barry dude, I knew the figure was something like 50k.....not a bad pull at the time for some rogue outfit
I did wonder how you could afford 2 fk off 2 costa del porthcawl sparkey dude...........whilst im on the subject why did masky clean his teeth in milk shake
