I will get behind the team 100% but it would help supporters get behind the manager if he changed his philosophy away from home. We are staring down the barrel but yesterday, SoD stuck rigidly to his principles and the disciplines he has introduced to us, thus relying on pretty much the worst defence in the division (albeit recently improved) to resist wave after wave of Wolves attacks, I counted the the number of times Fontaine made saving tackles before they actually scored. In short, IT WAS NEVER GOING TO WORK. I understand that we will have had a game plan, frustrate them and try and nick a goal HOWEVER, when they were clearly on their knees, a top coach would have gone for the jugular and tried to finish them. Instead, we allowed them to keep trying until eventually, they got something. Yes, I saw what happened against Barnsley but to me, that was down to introducing new players cold into a situation where the opposition were doing what we should have been doing yesterday which was going for it, all guns blazing... SoD, given our current position, we don't have the time to stick to what we have recently learnt - holding out for a narrow 1-0 defeat against Derby will not be considered a sign of progress. It would be a complete anathema and wholly and totally unacceptable to every single City supporter. The time for getting the team to play the same every week is for next season, you've got all summer to do that - meanwhile we MUST throw caution to the wind and attack at Derby with as many guns as we can bring to bear (like our closest rivals are doing). I will be clear, if the height of your ambition is to try and stiffle Derby to nick a draw/win when clearly nothing else but wins will do, this will make my understanding of how the Forest hierarchy came to their decision very easy. Yes of course we must temper ambition with realism but the very basic tenet of any football team is to start with an intention to win the game so let's try that and see how we get on. No one will blame you for trying to win the game...
No one will blame you for trying to win the game... I think this is the feeling of everyone! The people who say we are moaners for getting on the managers back are just sheeps happy to be guided into the slaughter house and then slate people for wanting to see some real effort to win the game. I maintain I do not care about losing if its done with effort to at least try and win! I think SOD will go for it now EVERY game, but I think it will be too little too late unless we can win at least 5 of our remaining games.
If SOD isn't flexible enough to change our tactics away from home and despite our unhappiness with a golden opportunity which was spurned at Molyneux on Saturday then we are doomed plain and simple. If he does tell the players to go for every game as if it's their last then fair enough, even if we do go down but this attitude of 'I'm happy in defeat' isn't what we want to hear at this stage of the season.
The very basic tenet of most of the best teams in history is built on defence. Exceptions there might be Barcelona & Brazil. You appear to have an anti O'driscoll agenda. You are conducting a stream of negativity v a coach only weeks into his role. Mcinnes put BCFC in the bottom three not Sean O'driscoll. Anathema - Poison to the mind. Actually many are clearly supportive.
I don't think Prem is being anti SoD I believe most of us can agree on here that SoD is by far a greater improvement and believe that he is the one to lead us out of this lull. All Prem is trying to say is now is not the time to sit back just get into them.
Saying he can see how O'driscoll got sacked [after a 4-2 win edge of play offs] at forest is not supportive. bloke is clearly intelligent. Could put some of that towards urging some POSITIVE support of the team if he has any clout away from the internet.
This forum is for stating opinions on what you think is the current situation at Ashton Gate and vary rarely reflects how somebody supports the side at the ground. I happen to agree with Prem, our away form speaks for itself, And I for one think we are going to need to be more positive.. Wolves were there for the taking and we didn't take that opportunity! Same applies to Brighton at home, games are running out. we need to have a go at it, not just meekly fall out of the division.. Dont confuse concern with negativity. cos I could apply that argument a lot of times across this board..
What an ejit thing to say - ranks alongside "lets sack Gary Jonhson because he does not play with wingers and we only ever win 1-0" I would have thought we would all understand by now. If SOD plays an attacking line-up we do not have the steel through midfield or defence to prevent the opposition running through us like a knife through butter, and we will never outscore the opposition without a quality midfield playmaker - in short WE DONT HAVE THE PLAYERS so we have to play a defensive game to keep them out. This is hardly SOD's fault is it I mean, is it ?
It is if he says the current squad is 'good enough' and we have yet another manager who refuses to bring in the players you suggest! A short 'dead cat bounce' from players who have consistently came up short in this division was inevitable with a new manager.. If its financial restraints stopping us getting players in, fair enough. But thats contrary to what SL is saying in the 'pub meeting' thread.
Best get rid of some of that lads imagery on here then mate. Thats is all about supporting the team not coating it off.
Yeah! were you supporting Derek Mcinnes? or "coating him off" Did you design the 'ernie'by the way cos you are very precious about it?
Rickster - Spot on. SOD's inherited a sh*t squad and yet we've managed to win our home games and keep clean sheets. Pretty damn good if you ask me especially after Prem's best mate - the clown McInnes left us in sh*t street. It's funny that some believe you can 'flick a switch' to attack, attack etc. If only it was that easy. Some also believe SOD's not doing his damndest to win away from home. It's beyond comprehension.
I reckon I know, or very close and know many of the ideas around it. Mcinnes got those lads and blokes support and more. Once it was clear he didn't have it, when vans and coaches could no longer be filled, City pubs near empty at 12.30, away support collapsing he didn't. Lost the fans nothing to support.
Yeah, well I kept supporting and will continue to do so with Sean O'driscoll. But if I don't agree with something I will use this forum to say so! And I'll keep 'the imagery' for now..
Last five two wins, two draws, one defeat. Not so scruffy nothing to tear the face off about. Months ago doubt a 1000 would have gone to wolves. Theres life no need to abandon what put a bit of that buzz back. If City get relegated I will only look at pre O'driscoll.
Exactly! You can't voice an opinion that utters a word of negativity without getting your head bitten off. I support S'OD all the way, I think he is a better manager than we deserve. But I will not support his 'lets keep it at 0-0 tactics' away from home anymore, certainly not when we are on the verge of relegation. No one can give me a sensible answer why we can dominate teams at home, but don't even try away. If you think we tried to win that game Saturday, or Blackpool away, you didn't go in my eyes. Either that or you are blind. I remember when I was a kid I would ask my dad on away days, and I remember Plymouth specifically (because it was the worst hole I've ever been away at the time) "Why is it any different to play away from home than it is at Ashton Gate". The truth is, theirs no scientific fact other than home advantage means the home fans can cheer the opposing team on more. It's still a football pitch with 11 vs 11, with a football and two goal mouths, so play like you are at home. If you lose, then thats football! I won't have people telling me I am bashing S'OD though or my club, because I don't believe in his "sit on it and pray" tactics, because I have traveled to follow my team, and spent good hard earned money to do so and always supported the players on the pitch on the day!
"If City get relegated I will only look at pre O'driscoll" And I will continue to be disappointed if We don't give it a real go before we do. However. I do believe that SOD is probably the best manager we could have if that should happen. I hope he is given the time and finances to rebuild the club as he will need too..
Yeah! were you supporting Derek Mcinnes? I didnât know much about him. I think it was around the Charlton game where I decided he was not the right fit for BCFC. Time enough in my mind for him to show what he was about. No barracking or boycotts involved. Did you design the 'ernie'by the way cos you are very precious about it? No. I understand the proactive ideal and have contributed financially to associated fans projects, odd other minor things, That ideal is a polar opposite to the negativity on here. That negativity has no positive purpose at this point.
So me attending games and giving my support as much as I vocally can on a weekend is too the teams detriment, but using this forum as a way to talk about the club I love and the mistakes we made on the weekend is causing to our downfall as well? Hmmm Arm chair fans everywhere
