What a good team has been fashioned by Diego Simeone! To be in with a shout for La Liga and Champions League is one hell of an achievement for a non fashionable club. Maybe there is still some hope remaining for teams outside the little group which have grabbed all the glory an prize money in Europe and the various domestic leagues for too long.
To be fair, La Liga is a 2 horse race. Usually between Barca and Madrid. It's good to see another team challenge for the league. As for the prem.... at the start of the season 5 teams could win it with 7/8 teams competing for a top 4 spot, which makes it the best league in the world because its the most competitive.
At the top level it does all come down to the frailty of human beings. Messi and Ronaldo are the undeniably best players on the planet, but team Athletico are running away with the jewels. However in the world cup it is different, and historically its the team that has the standout performer that wins it. Which makes it even more galling that Waddle hit a post against Germany in 1990, because Gascoigne was that standout performer. That doesn't happen very often, and I can't see it occurring for us this summer Argentina for me in July 2014
