Somebody once said,"One man's religion is another mans' poison."
Or at least,I think somebody once said it.
If not,and nobody ever has, then I proudly claim it for my own.

Whether we like it or not, religion touches us all on a daily basis, either by the written,or spoken word.
    We simply cannot escape it.

Turn on your radio in the morning and what do we get,"Thought for the day",by some vicar,or other.
There are no similar "thoughts" from any Athiests.
Presumably the BBC doesn't feel that Atheists have anything worthwhile to say,or even think about.
Somehow Atheists are seen as unworthy, and easily dismissed.

Then,on Sunday evenings we have "Songs of praise" from some Church somewhere.
No such programme emanates form the Beeb highlighting any Athiests' musical choices.
    Why not?
What about them playing some Tamla Motown for us non believers?
Why not have the great Atheists talk, and play their non religious music?

In addition, whenever there is a programme on some serious social topic it's only the religious lot who are invited to speak.
Not an Athiest viewpoint to be heard.

The House of Lords is full of ex Bishops spouting their religious ideology. I'm not aware of any Atheists ever having been made Life Peers.

I could go on, but I think my point has been made.

So,in an effort to rectify the situation, albeit on a small scale,I would like to see a Sticky created on this Forum,so that those interested may air their religious/non religious opinions/points of view, without weighing down the main stream articles.
Debate, which can get heated, would then be contained.
Everyone would be able to post, regardless of their religious affiliations,or otherwise.

We already have diverse sticky's which are not all football related,so I cannot see any reason for my request to be denied.
The creation of such a sticky would prevent all other threads being sidetracked by religious overtones,as has happened today.

A suitable title for the sticky could be the title of this thread, but other suggestions will be most welcome.

How can you call religion "boring", Norway?

All that begatting, raping, pillaging, gratuitous violence,etc.,etc. Need I go on?

If you find that lot "boring",then I'd better relocate to Norway, and get me some of what you're getting.

The problem with Atheist points of view is in my opinion they normally have none, they just ridicule people who do have beliefs. You dont generally see Atheist shows the same as you dont see any Anti anything shows.
I have no problem with Atheism or any religion and dont believe in forcing your views or lack of them on anyone in anyway. As for not getting Atheists views on the tv/radio, havent you ever listened to Terry Wogan, Jimmy Carr or watched a Woody Allen or Helen Mirren video. I guess these people dont make a fuss about their lack of religion the same as i dont introduce myself to people as not being a Rastafarian.

Atheists have plenty of views, Atheism is not just to ridicule other people's beliefs, it is that fact we don't believe in higher powers. Doesn't mean we don't have an opinion. Im an atheist, don't believe in all this god crap, if there was, then why would he punish children? Plenty of them around the world suffering, a god for me wouldn't let that happen, they are innocents.

So "Atheists have no points of view".

Well, morgan, that is a very arrogant thing to say.

In fact,a very foolish thing to say.

I have one,and it's that ALL religions should be banned.

How's that for a point of view?

People who believe, "ridicule" themselves by believing the ridiculous things they purport to believe in.

Rastafarians don't try to ram their beliefs down other people's throats so your analogy is a fatuous one.

You see,my sticky is aimed at people like you, hence my request for it's creation.

I'm nothing, not an atheist or a Christian or Muslim or anything else. I think that it's up to people to decide what they are, and how they fit in with things. I don't believe in these views being forced on people, I am just happy the way I am.

    That's easy to answer.

Its boring because its on a football forum and not a religious fanatics forum <ok>

If you want to debate religion that's fine but your just destined to go around in circles! there is no right and wrong with religion and politics so if you wish to meander through things that will never have a definitive answer then feel free, me I find the topic totally boring and not something that really belongs on here IMO.

Atheism,Islam,Christianity, etc, etc all an individual thing where there is no right or wrong .

    Have fun :)

My opinion is quite simple .... religion is the currently in vogue mythology ... they all, in the end, come and go. If a person wants to wrap their lives in fantasy and irrationality in their private lives then that's fine let them be. If they take it into the public square and promote policies based on that foundation of fantasy that impact my life then they should be forced to justify and prove out their foundations no differently than would the proponent of a policy based on economics, technology, science, or any other discipline.

I see no reason why statements of idiocy and fantasy suddenly receive hands-off legitimacy when a little three letter word gets imbedded in the sentence. People that spout such crap should not get a pass, but should be pointed out and ridiculed as would a person spouting nonsense "based" on science, or economics or anything else.

I respect most people's beliefs as they probably have sound personal experiences and reasons for having them. I exclude, of course, any religion or belief that in any way incorporates violence. In that context I have zero tolerance. Do your own thing, within reason, just don't try and inflict it on me.

Norway, you seem to misunderstand my motivation for this.
I don't really mean to debate it on a day to day basis, but the subject does crop up occasionally, and can and does destroy existing threads.
There is a sticky that discusses drinking, and I find that boring because I don't drink.
So,do we get rid of that? No,of course not.
    Who decides what belongs here?

If you don't like the topic don't reply to it, if nobody replies it does a death , the community decides what is further discussed .

Don't do them all at once,Ivor.

While I find this very patronising, some beliefs are ridiculous, such as some thinking that the world is only 6 thousand years old <doh>
