It was back to back derby wins for Sunderland as they ran out deserved winners at Longbenton in the FA Premier Youth league.Following their win at Middlesbrough last week, they completed the double in convincing style against their old rivals.

Following a quiet opening, Sunderland took over the game by placing more emphasis on going wide with Williams Kokolo and Sam Greenwood down the left and the Tom Howard - Benji Kimpioka partnership down the right.

The first goal came after 17 minutes of increasing pressure. Howard played in Bali Mumba who got to the line and pulled back for Kimpioka, who had switched inside to score with a calm finish from close range.

The Wearsiders were a real threat every time they went forward but they also defended well to keep the lead at half time.

Indeed, goal keeper Anthony Patterson - who comes from Newcastle - was forced to make two great one-on-one saves to preserve the advantage but then Sunderland took over the game and the second goal was just a matter of time.

It finally came when Kimplioka, who had a very good game, cut inside the central defender who brought him down. Lee Connelly stepped up to crash the ball into the top left corner of the net. The keeper went the right way but the strike was much too powerful for him to repel.

Sunderland consolidated for the remainder of the game but then added a third for good measure in injury time.

Jordan Hickey worked the ball well to Kimpioka in the centre of goal on the edge of the box and a brilliant reverse pass sent Jake Hackett clear to score across the keeper.

Delighted coach Mark Atkinson said: "It was very pleasing - a quality performance with the same attitude as last week being repeated as we hoped it would be. Above all, it was our first clean sheet of the season which is very important."

Newcastle: Huuhtanen, Watts, Cass, Gamblin, Walters, Aplin, Goodridge, Longstaff, Wilson, Allan, Sorenson.

Sunderland: Patterson, Howard, Derbali, Young, Kokola, Mumbala, Hickey, Hackett, Kimpioka, Connelly, Greenwood (Best 57).

Sunderland have been drawn away to Watford in the F.A,. Youth Cup. No date has been fixed but the tie has to be played before December 16th.

Great post I really think we need to give introduce some of our younger players a run in the first team. Beadling and Watmore for starters then starts or runs for any from Embleton, Greenwood, Gooch. We need players, with passion, energy and a winning mentality. We could have success with the stadium rocking or not but at least we've tried - we are now rock bottom afterall.

Hearing good things about this Kimpioka kid. Rumours were that Arsenal were lining up a double bid for him and Asoro in the summer.

Its the way forward, get a nucleus of young players in and add slowly, with the right additions, no more Billy Joneses please, and make gradual steps forward. This is the sort of manager I would look out for if I were in Short's shoes.

I’d prefer some of them to get out on loan to get some experience with fully grown men.

All fair and good beating kids same as you but that doesn’t help make the step up.

We’ve had good kids for a while who’ve not made the step up.

Just look at the only two players we've brought through and made big money on.

Jordan Henderson (loaned out to Coventry) came back and made the first team sold for £16m

Jordan Pickford (Loaned out to Darlo, Bradford and Preston) came back and made the first team sold for £30m

After last year's U23''s made the International cup final they should have mostly gone out on loan to league 1 and 2 teams

Beadling T.Robson Embleton E.Robson, Greenwood, Molyneux and Asoro would have been much better out on loan this season.

There’s an element of protecting some of the ones who are not ready at all but I think we might hold some back too much.

Looks like Stryjek is getting games again on loan, after coming back from injury. 4-0 clean sheet the other day.

Thats not bad going at all though mate compared to other teams. Nearly 50m made so thats our academy paid for.
When was the last time Newcastle for example or alot of other teams in the Prem brought a gifted home grown player through?

It's not bad going, but it could be much more if we made more of it and gave this crop of youngsters the opportunity to spread their wings a bit.

If not for poor management we'd have got a decent fee for Colback too to add to that.

If we go down we'll probably have plenty of suitors for George Honeyman too

I hope that's not a pop at the team for getting to the final
I think the heavy defeat was caused by playing a half fit player(Love), against their stand out star forward.
    But that's in the past...
