Rangers have launched a bid to take former player Carlos Cuellar back to Ibrox, reports Clubcall. The Aston Villa defender is thought to be close to completing his return to the club he left three years ago in a £7.8 million. It is unlikely Villa will come anywhere near to recouping the money the spent on the Spaniard. Rangers owner Craig Whyte confirmed that the SPL champions had placed a bid, but said it was made before Villa's change of management. The deal has stalled since Alex McLeish took over at Villa Park. Reports suggest that the new boss would be interested in Gers goalkeeper Allan McGregor in a swap deal, but Whyte said that was a non-starter. He said: "I've said that Allan is not for sale. We have not been approached by anybody about him. We've made a bid for Cuellar but, with their managerial change, it has slowed there a bit."
