A bit early I know and we're all still thinking about yesterday, and rightly so, but I thought i'd best be consistent and put this up. Please post anything to do with the upcoming tough match with Aston Villa in this thread please. Any other thread on the subject will be merged into this thread.
I'm hoping on a very similar side to our semi-finalists,and keep that confidence high amongst the lads and hopefully get a really good result against villa. We probably only need another 3-4 points for safety....thoughts anyone?.
The confidence will be sky high and I think we can get 4 points from the next two games targeting a point at villa. The team will be the same its all about keeping the momentum going right up to the final .Hopefully we can get safety sorted fairly quickly and look forward to our biggest game ever.
With K.J. and Jonny Walter's on fire at the minute, anything is possible I suppose. Go there with confidence sky high and let's see what happens. Like us, Villa are not yet safe. Would take a pt now and move onto the Wolves game. Tough at the Villa, it always is. But I don't see why we might not snatch a pt here's hoping anyway. We need to keep performing like we have done. And, the pts we still need will come along with that, I hope so anyway.
Don't know how reliable this is but a Stoke fan just posted this on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/RSummers7/status/60819089018454016 @RSummers7 Ryan Summerfield Some of the Stoke players are being dropped for the game vs Villa because of partying through the hours on Sunday when told not to... http://twitter.com/#!/RSummers7/status/60819191862804482 @RSummers7 Ryan Summerfield its not my place to say but the club were told by the sentinel via some people.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...-being-taken-ill-overnight-article726254.html Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is "comfortable" in hospital after being taken ill last night. The Frenchman, who looks to have led his side to safety despite a series of clashes with top players, had heart surgery in 2001 after suffering chest pains during half-time of a Premier League game while he was managing Liverpool. So I guess Houllier won't be in charge against us this weekend?
A couple of interesting tweets from a Midlander Sports Journalist I follow on Twitter: @FanhousePercy John Percy Interesting developments on John Carew in tomorrow's papers. #AVFC #SCFC @FanhousePercy John Percy @ESPN_Stoke don't think it will surprise people too much I assume this means a deal is in place to sign him in the summer. What else could it mean? Another development: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nt-rush-contract-talks.html?ito=feeds-newsxml John Carew is sweating on landing a permanent move to Stoke. The hitman returns to Villa Park today for the first time since Gerard Houllier cancelled his contract in January. Carew is on a six-month deal at Stoke but boss Tony Pulis has yet to decide on his future. So it's not a loan but a 6 month contract. Interesting that this is only coming to light now.
Sarge, Been unimpressed with Carew so far, I know hr still has time to prove himself, I just hope he does soon.
I'd hope Pulis is reluctant to break up the partnership of Jonny and Kenny. They're both playing superbly lately and seem to compliment each other well.
A bit more on the Carew situation. http://twitter.com/#!/FanhousePercy/status/61726954168135680 @FanhousePercy John Percy @APB1979 @SunDeanScoggins #Stoke have now confirmed he can't play.. This greatly confuses me as Pulis has said in The Sentinel he will be involved. http://tinyurl.com/3hfolqx
The team for today: Begovic Wilkinson-Huth-Shawcross-Wilson Pennant-Delap-Whelan-Etherington Jones-Walters Subs Sorensen, Faye, Collins, Pugh, Diao, Whitehead, Fuller
1-1. Sounded like a soft equaliser. Text from the old man - "Ridiculous scoreline. We've been loads better than them." Villa fans sing "how do you watch that every week" moments after scoring with their first chance on goal after 42 minutes. Oh the irony!
Phew that was not the most enjoyable last 20 minutes. Thought we were going to get beat if the truth be told. Fantastic start to the match, much the better side, and it was like being at Wembley. Everyone was calm, playing it about and after we scored, we never looked in danger, couldn't see any other winner but Stoke. Then, and thats why he costs so much money, Bent scores a great header from nowhere. Hats off to him, one half chance, one goal and honours even. The other results went okay for us and assuming West ham lose later as expected, it has not been a bad day. Roll on the Wolves game. Simple, we win that and we are safe as I can't see any of the bottom three then picking 9 points from the last four games. Up the potters-come on you Stoke
1-1. Good point for us. Other results gone our way, so not a bad day. An away point is always a bonus. Sounded 1st half we played alright but 2nd not so good, fa cup hangover perhaps? I said before the Semi last week that we needed 4 points to stay, so now we only need 1 win and we're ok.
well we really are really buzzing a great point and we can finish the job on tuesday and then look forward to the big day.
