its good to be back. First season for a long time I've not seen us in a preseason game. So there's nothing to base anything on, but big clubs will do these foreign tours now, just have to accept it... Greegsy back as number 1. Good news for me. I'm going with Clarky at lb as I prefer a lefty at lb. I'm putting hector in cm as I've seen him there and I think it's where he should be. Aina at rb. I'm going 4-3-3 and no hendo. Greegsy Aina Dawson Mazuch Clark Hector Stewart Clucas Campbell Hernandez growshitski A rousing Steve Bruce before the game, applause for chezz and Elmo and then no prisoners. Let's beat the buggers. Hard fought 1-1. Anyone who doesn't have a fiver on john Terry scoring wants their head testing.
What, the 'BruceOut' one? #dinosaur Nice enough bloke though, and, like Elmo and Chester, deserve recognition before kick off.
As has been said on another thread.... absolutely no idea which Hull City are going to turn up because we are unrecognisable from last season. The massive thing for us at this point is Sam Clucas, he could be the best player in this league this season, whether he stays is another question. Today will be tense, very, but I think we'll either draw 0-0 or win 2-0 (Abel both)...
One each all the way. Not sure why everyone thinks JT will score, wouldn't be too surprised if he spent most of the game in his own half. I think he'll find championship football a bit tougher on his 36-yearold legs.
I have put my prediction in a sealed envelope. I will open it after the game and post a photo of it to prove my unerring accuracy.
If we had a decent LB we would have a very decent starting 11 and half of a bench. Enough for at least play offs. But we haven't. And we haven't got anywhere near enough strength in depth. Time yet I guess, and providing the "supermarket (really) is closed". 1-2 #DriffTigerinshockboutofpositivity
Even though I wouldn't be against this line up, and would much prefer Clark at left back, I think he will go with the following. Greesy Lenihan Dawson Hector Aina Growsiki Stewart Clucas Bowen Henriksen Hernandez. Fancy a 1-1 draw, hope for 1-2 win.
I'm sensing some contempt for Chazz match day thread here , there could be a revolt coming , I agree this one does seem a bit phoned in, but after a long summer break it is only natural for a little rustiness - Chazz will be back in full swing soon I'm sure
You're not new here, I know that. This is Chazz at his peak. It's downhill from now. Unluckily for him, we're awesome at protesting online. Luckily for him, he doesn't give a ****. #chazzout
Revolts have been tried before...and been crushed Chazz is resilient He'll get into full swing when he's actually seen all the new players play. Sadly for this thread he wasn't able to get abroad pre season, to East Hull, to do that...
1 – Aston Villa became the second team ever to win the double, when they won the First Division and FA Cup in 1897. The first club to achieve the feat was Preston North End. 2 – Archie Hunter became the first player to score in every round of the FA Cup in 1887. Villa lifted the famous cup competition with Hunter scoring one of the goals in their final win against West Bromwich Albion. 3 – Villa are one of only seven clubs to have played in every Premier League season. Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the other six. (?? till relegation couple years ago) 4 – Aston Villa have had more England internationals than any other club. The figure stands at 72 to date, with Fabian Delph the latest name on the list. 5 – Their 128 goals during the 1930/31 season still stands as the record for the most top-flight goals scored in a single season. 6 – Villa Park has played host to more FA Cup semi-finals than any other club ground (55). 7 – When Jozef Venglos arrived at Aston Villa in July 1990, he became the first foreign manager to be appointed by a top-flight club. 8 – Aston Villa have the fifth highest total of major honours won by an English club, having lifted the top-flight title on seven occasions. The most recent of those successes came in 1980/81. 9 – Aston Villa have now played 104 seasons in the top tier of English football, with only Everton having spent longer in the top flight (111 seasons). Villa against the Toffees is the most-played fixture in top-flight history. 10 – George Ramsey, who spent 42 years in charge of Aston Villa, still holds the record for the most FA Cup wins as a manager. Ramsey, who took charge of 1,327 Villa games, won the FA Cup on six occasions.
No 3 is out of date. Unless we are still in the PL for today's fixture. When Aston Villa was formed the population of Aston was larger than that of Birmingham.
