One of the Premier League ever-present clubs is on the way out and have been for some time. This has come as a surprise to nobody. Investment in the club has been dramatically slashed since the days of Martin O'Neill. Their brightest and best all moved on and they gambled on unproven players to replace them. This was supplemented by bringing in failed or similarly unproven managers. No money, no players and poor coaches = relegation. Who knew? Once their place in the Championship is guaranteed, where do they go? Who's likely to take the helm while the increasingly unpopular Randy Lerner is still owner? Do you think that they'll come back up, tread water in the second tier or drop even further down? Nigel Pearson, Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy and David Moyes currently lead the odds to be their next manager. Who would you want if you were a Villa fan and who would you be staunchly opposed to? Finally, will anyone really miss them and has this been a fixture that you've looked out for?
They've got a good academy. Should be a good chance for some of them to get experience. They just need a manager, who knows the Championship well. So all in the OP besides Moyes. Even Neil Warnock....
Before anyone mentions Jack Grealish and what he could have added, I will say he is absolute ****, overated by a desperate media. A nothing player who runs a bit and had a bit of a purple patch.
I agree with Gonz. The way they're playing they'll find the Championship a tough struggle. Manager? Pearson for me, if they can get him to take the job. I don't believe he's been given enough credit for basically laying the foundations of the season Leicester are currently having.
Outside of fans maybe, but we all know we'd be nowhere without him. Pearson's greatest attribute is coming in and reforming clubs from an overpaid sinking ship into a much cheaper, hard working team. Hes done it to us (twice) and Hull fans will probably admit he steered them in the right direction as well.
Seen him twice in the flesh and I agree, he's absolute ****. No idea what the fuss was about. Plus he's a total ted off the pitch.
I've no real issue with them tbh. I was just taking the piss. Old Doug must be pulling his hair out bless him. They've been totally mis-managed for 3 years, both on and off the pitch Coming into this season having sold / lost the spine of their team in Vlaar, Delph and Benteke, they were always going to go down this season.
Pearson is very good at shifting dead wood and building a squad ... but Ranieri he is not ... Drinkwater, Mahrez, Vardy, Albrighton and Simpson were all peripheral under Pearson. ... look where they are under Ranieri ... NP is a competent manager and I'd back him to get Villa back up ... I'd be less confident in his ability to do what Ranieri has done ...
