Aston Villa and Sunderland consider hijacking Saints' Rodriguez deal By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER PUBLISHED: 21:30 GMT, 3 June 2012 | UPDATED: 21:30 GMT, 3 June 2012 Comments (1) Share Aston Villa and Sunderland are showing late interest in Burnleyâs Jay Rodriguez as his move to Southampton is yet to be finalised. The Saints are trying to convince him to move to St Mary's after agreeing to smash their transfer record for the Burnley youngster. Saints have had a £7million bid accepted for Rodriguez and chairman Nicola Cortese has been attempting to thrash out personal terms with the 22-year-old striker's representatives. Heading south: Jay Rodriguez (right) looks poised to join Southampton Rodriguez came through the youth ranks at Burnley, made his debut in 2007 and has had loan spells with Stirling Albion and Barnsley. Saints are ready to part with Richard Chaplow and the midfielder could be in line for a return to Burnley where he started his career. Anybody know owt about this lad , I've never seen him play
I dont know a lot about him. I would much rather go for someone who has done the business in a top division. We have a young forward with potential who cant get a game why would we need another one?
If it wasn't for us signing Wickham other would be interesting but its a no go for us. Seem him a few times, will do a good job for a newly promoted team abit like when we got Kenwyne 6'1 22 years old. got around 15 goals two seasons in a row. They are quoting 7m though and when you consider you could get an Andy Johnson or a Hugo Rodellega for free its a risk. Pogrebnyak is also free
When you put it that way you have a good point wouldn't mind any of those 3 Also Drogba Kalou are available on free tranfers
I would rather take the Yak. Hes 29 and has scored everywhere he has been. Hes a bit of a lazy twat but pair him up with a hard worker like Fletcher and I feel it would be a winner. Theres definatly better opions out there for that money
really hope he does end up here like, very good finisher, always seems to score against the big teams
He is a really good player if we can get Yak to we will have one of the strongast strike force in the league
Wouldnt want Rodriguez, although im sure he scored 23 last season, he is young, we need experienced, 24-32 year olds please
