When i compare Leicesters programme with ours the only big difference is that they have action shots from previous games. We dont. In fact its at least 2 seasons since we had action shots from previous games. Cue the cynics here now.............
That's always been the case. Think about it - to design, print, collect and ditribute 3000 copies they need absolute minimum 2 days. The problem nowadays is that we now have access to the news immediately and we never had that in the past, so it just seems out of date by the time you read the programme. If you know what I mean (Im sure I couldve worded that better).
They've produced them for every game, well ever. It's called a teamsheet funnily enough and distributed to all officials, club representatives, sponsors, media etc as soon as they're announced.
Leicester's programme last season ****ted on ours Together with WBA and Man City, they have a carved out a rep for consistent high quality stuff. If only our club could do the same.
We used to have a unique programme produced locally, but due to cost cutting, we now have the same generic cack as most clubs, using freelance journalists and produced somewhere on the south coast.
As I understand it, we get a template and we provide the content to fill those column inches, with the odd freelancer brought in to do interviews. I believe the majority of clubs have the same template and have their programmes done by the same people.
Yep and that company nearly went under a few times last season, and may do so again. Not a wise medium or long term solution. Who will be writing the programme notes this season, like AP and PD have done for the last ten years?
The programme used to be done by Strawberry from Hull and was for years, but its cheaper to get it produced in Plymouth than by them. Bit of a shame but a sign of the times.
Ditto the City mag. Now we have a dull cheapo version that is light years below the quality we had when we were a 4th division club
It depends what you all mean by 'produced' and 'done'. You make it sound like it's entirely made by people who have no link to the club when the reality is you mean page layout and design.
I stopped buying programmes not long after Strawberry stopped doing them, the quality really did nosedive
I used to write, produce, beg, steal, borrow and the coordinate free donated content, whilst also controling sales of the programme when it was produced by Tranby, and I was told their former owners, Ellerman Printers before I believe! No budget. Minimal penny pinching Clifford Waite style production costs, and the worst value for money I ve ever had the misfortune to have to manage. Out for nowt give us a shout Robbo! To all those who ever bought it, I sincerely apologise
do you really think that AP and PD ever wrote their notes. I ve ghost written more than one managers programme notes.
i did a lot of research on Football Programmes for my dissertation about 150 years ago. Believe it or not, nobody reads em in spite of what they might say!!
Yes I do Why should the fact that one manager had his notes ghost written mean that a different chairmen has his notes ghost written??
one manager? these guys are footballers not writers. do you know the traditional main qualification for becoming a footballer bearing in mind that the vast majority never earn more than an average wage in their career and are normally finished by 30? Check their typical exam qualifications for a clue
