Asked about ambitions, the boss said: "We want to win it." I think if more of his intended targets had been realised, we may have had a chance. But realistically…..
Maybe we can surprise a few like we did last time If we're top at Xmas (ha ha) I hope we can do better than buying rubbish like Adebola and Carle in the transfer window !
The Championship is one of the most unpredictable leagues out there and I think our 1st team squad is stronger than GJ's was in 2008, so you never know...
I hope we are not expecting a repeat of the last time we went up under GJ because although that was a nice warm fuzzy feeling at the time it was also the beginning of our fall back to League One. I was lucky enough to see 2 games that season and was not impressed with the outcomes as we drew both and to be honest I thought we were somewhat flattered by our league position. We drew vs Colchester and were lucky not to be down 0-3 at halftime and in the last 10 years, of probably a single game a season, I have never seen City win at Ashton Gate. I had to go to Wembley in March to see them win at last - and what a win. Times could be tough this season and we may need to be on our best supportive mindsets to get us through. Good luck to her and all who sail in her.
While we'd all love promotion, it's a ridiculous thing to expect as a fan. For a manager, no one goes into a match expecting to lose half of their games in a bid for mid-table obscurity. Cotterill has to go into every game expecting a win. What I want, above anything else, is the chance for the club to be in a position to be self-sufficient, so we can actually compete with clubs in our division. I want the stadium to be finished, I want legitimate sponsorship deals, and I want us to fill Ashton Gate regularly. With that being said, I do wonder how Lansdown would treat promotion to the Premier League. Most clubs spend like crazy when they go up nowadays, and as a billionaire already I could see Lansdown throwing tens of millions around.
