We've accepted a £2m bid apparently. Published: 22:06 Monday 9th July, 2018 Sunderland are believed to have accepted a bid in the region of £2 million from Swansea City for Joel Asoro. The 19-year-old has just one year left on his current deal and despite being offered an extension last season, he has made it clear to club management that he wants to move on. That has seen Swansea move for his services as they undertake an extensive overhaul following their relegation from the Premier League. New boss Graham Potter is an admirer of the young forward having worked in Sweden for eight years. He has brought many of his trusted aides from Ostersunds with him to South Wales, and they look set to make Asoro one of their first additions. There has been significant interest in Asoro from across the continent, and the youngster will now have a decision to make about his future. His departure will underline the need for attacking reinforcements on Wearside, with the club making signings in that department a top priority. Wahbi Khazri is expected to seal his move to AS Saint-Etienne on Tuesday. Jack Ross begins his Sunderland tenure with a pre-season clash with Darlington on Tuesday night. Asoro made 29 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals.
Not a great deal but if we won't sign a contract why bother developing him another year and leaving him for nowt. He's not shown himself as truly capable yet. We'll manage. We move on.
See I disagree. Don't think he'll amount to anything. Mark2 David Bellion. All pace, no clout, poor movement and not a natural finisher. Having pants down really. Hoping somebody would have been daft enough to offer more given his hype but two million is outstanding when we're accepting 6m for a player we know has bags of proven quality.
I agree I don't think he's shown he's going to make it yet. Not by a long shot and at the age he's at he should have done a bit more. I'd have just liked to have sold him earlier on his potential alone when bigger money was being mentioned or to have kept him and seen his development through. Not going to be having sleepless nights over it mind.
Quality of the deal depends on if we have a hefty sell in clause. The lads has bags of potential and if he starts to reach it at Swansea his next move after that will be for a huge sum.
Who knows. He MAY turn out to be a Superstar or he may disappear from the scene entirely. Over the years I've seen more of the latter than the former (Kieron Brady was one of the spectacular ones but there have been others). Everybody moves on.
If it's true that Arsenal have been sniffing around, where's this lad's ambition ? Yes he'll get more game time at Swansea, but surely not more than with us. It's a strange move in my book.
good luck to him. The stark reality is, he is young and probably doesn't see himself improving by playing in league 1...he has no real connection with the club or the town, so as I say, good luck, hope he has a great career
I'm still undecided on if I rate him or not so on the basis that we're doing a full clear out of players who don't want to be here he can feel free to do one.
Bit of a shame but if he wants out **** him, would have been adored here and would have probably smashed this league but is what it is.
Think he,s taking a risk. Swansea may do well , but if they struggle after relegation and continue on a downer , he may well regret ending up being lost in a poor team
Really not that bothered. He's not shown anything other than potential. Hopefully that potential will come good and we have a decent % sell on clause of about 30%
He doesn't want to play for us any more so he's moving on and we make a few quid out of it Everyone wins
Brady was a real talent cut short by a rare vascular condition retiring at 22. All the talant In the world and worth ten of asoro. He certainly didn't fail at stepping up. Brady had a great touch and an eye for a pass in addition to being a goal threat. Chalk and cheese for me like. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
I don't necessarily think going to a team in the Championship where you hope you will get game time is less ambitious to going to a top tier Premiership club to sit on the bench. I reckon too many pick the latter and a very comfortable life whilst watching their careers drift by, being paid good money to have a front row seat at matches. Plus I don't think Arsenal were really that interested in him and he would never have got a game for them anyway.
To save any embarrassment incase he does fulfil his potential, a sell on clause, would be a sensible insurance policy. I wish the lad well, he looked a decent shout last season, after a few less than spectacular ones. Another Waghorn maybe.
Is he a striker is he a wide forward? Not our problem now. But he'll fail if he's set on playing up front imo.
