CANFORD CLIFFS, DICK TURPIN, DREAM AHEAD and POUR MOI have all had their first mares scanned in foal in recent days. It means the studs can all sigh with relief that their charges are fertile and getting on with the job.
Mares are usually scanned for pregnancy 2 weeks after being covered, so expect a lot of other similar announcements in coming days/weeks.

MIDDAY was covered by Galileo on 14th February, so an announcement on her status should be made shortly, along with that of GOLDIKOVA, who was expected to be covered shortly after the start of the breeding season.

Right PN last time around, but I thought I'd try it as it's all Cheltenham at the moment. So here goes. These are gaps I still have for the studs I follow.

First all associated with the Royal Studs

Anything in the 2011 ROM for Medley and Enticement (they may well have both been in the USA).

In the same 2011 ROM does it show anything for Going for Gold, Fascination and Starshine (I'm not sure if they were retained by the stud, and if they weren't don't bother).

The next lot are Freedman mares which should be listed still as Cliveden Stud (did he disentangle himself from his partners?).

    Cut Short
    Super Sleuth
    Endorsement
    Independence
    Fraulein
    Sister Maria
    Mischief Making
    Cross Channel

Finally Jumpship for Mark Dixon I think here the likelihood is a dead foal in 2011.

Anything you can do would be great. But you've been very generous with your time already so don't worry too much.

On another track what stallions, that have had say 2 to 4 crops race so far, are looking to be duds? It often surprises me how quickly the word gets round that the offspring of young sires are not what was expected. At the same time despite the damning words of many doomsayers on this site (or 606) I'm at least pleased with the start Sir Percy made last year. I'm sure he's not being sent the cream of the harem but at least he's getting winners. The next 2 years are going to be key to his future. With him being inbred 5 X 5 to Chanteur (I jest) he must offer outcross opportunities to many of today's mares. It somehow warms the heart (well mine) to see names like Pinza, Hornbeam and Vienna in a pedigree.

If I remember correctly, Dancing Brave got off to a poor start and I also seem to remember seeing a Dancing Brave colt/filly foal/yearling going for about £1200. Then he produced Commander In Chief and White Muzzle. Not sure if he's done anything else though.

I think it was a slow start but those two were from his 3rd crop. When was he sent to Japan, I don't remember? Maybe his number was up before those two saw the racecourse.

Grundy had a classic winner with his first crop but was soon forgotten. Hawk Wing was on his way after only one crop had seen the track. It doesn't seem to take long before these decisions are made and it's rare for anyone to have regrets.

This is weird. If I go to edit this by taking the second number in text above out there is only one number in the edit screen. So you can either have no number or number number

Bustino, I'll look into those mares and get back to you.

Dancing Brave stood in GB 1987-1991 before transferring to Japan. He died there in 1999. His stud fee on retirement was about £120,000.

In other bloodstock news, it has been reported that ZARKAVA is to visit Dubawi this year. She has an, as yet, unnamed 2yo filly by Dalakhani, a yearling colt by Sea the Stars and produced a Galileo colt on 20th February this year.

Strange. My screen still shows number number.

That's a great compliment to Dubawi to follow Sea the Stars and Galileo. How about Dalakhani? He got off to a cracking start with Conduit and others like Chinese White from his first crop. Have things gone quiet?

He's doing pretty well, he had 13 individual stakes performers in 2011, topped off by RELIABLE MAN (Prix du Jockey Club), DUNCAN (Irish St Leger) and BARAAN (3rd Prix du Jockey Club). His fee is currently €40,000.

Bustino I think it may depend on your browser version? I know some older versions of IE (we have 6.0 at work) have trouble displaying this (and other) websites and you hence often see the last word at the end of the line repeated at the beginning of the next line.

yes it just appears quiet. He looked to be the business with his first crop, maybe he still will be.

You're right. I'm now at home on another computer and it jus says one number. Very odd.

Thank you so much PN. I will leave my copies of ROM dating back to 1974 to you in my will!!!

Looks as if the Queen is sending Danehill/Sadler's Wells mares to the US for a different mix. Also there are more and more investments as well. I notice the Aga Khan, Sheikh Mohammed and Khaled Abdullah seem to be either selling or swapping mares/foals with the Royal studs.

Cliveden look to be have a strong hand despite the small roster of mares. Independence (Reference Point/Mount Nelson family) and Fraulein seem to get winners and the Madame Dubois family still gets good animals.

Can Cyclonic tell me some more about Fastnet Rock?

Some heart warming news for a Friday morning: Zenyatta gave birth to her first foal, a colt by Bernardini weighing in at 130lb (a decent size for a first foal), in the early hours of this morning (10.10pm Kentucky time). There are pictures already:

    He has his mum's ears!

There is also supposed to be a short video taken just after foaling, but I can't find links anywhere at the moment.

Just a quick note to say I won't be about much next week, though sadly won't be at Cheltenham. I'll deal with any questions when I get back to a computer on 19th March.

She looks a pretty contented new mum. I suspect there will be a link to any video on the Zenyatta website but at the moment I can't get onto it
