A short update.. Lisa Knights talks to Mike Henderson of Barr construction and Bristol Sport founder Steve Lansdown as phase three of the Ashton Gate rebuild begins. *Drone camera image and footage provided by the Bristol Post.
Can't wait for it all to be finished, can see the atyeo being extended to allow us to hold the 2022 World Cup when we have to step in
Wow ! Looks already like a proper stadium Thing is though, the Ayteo will look like a joke when it's finished
Certainly shoe-horning it in a tight space. Great decision to remove the Dolman roof support at the south stand end. Like BRR, I agree that the Atyeo is going to look puny in comparison to the other 3 sides but unless we buy the houses behind, nowt can be done. The overhead shots really show how terrible the Williams Stand is. The new stand is going to be a giant. Hope we can fill it........
If rumours are to be believed then Steve Lansdown buys a house behind the Atyeo every time one becomes available. There is one old lady who's in her 90's who refuses to sell. She was born in that house apparently and understandably wants to stay there until she dies. I'm sure that eventually all will be owned by SL and then the Atyeo can be brought up to scratch to match the rest of the stadium.
Also feel a little emotional seeing the old stadium replaced by the new stands and revamped Dolman..... Its only when you see the contrast between the new and the remaining old buildings that you realise just how outdated it looks.
certainly hope so, a 3 sided wrap around with the new Williams looming over it- would look brilliant.
It would never happen as the rules state, that it goes Europe then outside Europe them back to Europe. So it would be out of USA and Austrailia if it happens.
I hope the rumours are true. It would also be really cool if the club could utilize Greville Smyth Park on match days and have some sort of fan zone there with food trucks and beer tents! Slightly smaller scale than what we see at world cup games but a nice hangout pre and post game. The match day experience would be great and let's face it, it's going to be a crush to get spots in the new bars. Weather may be an issue in the winter but the club needs to do everything possible to get families down to the games. Nice new stadium is part of it but there's so much more could be done.
I'm sure when we're in the Premiership Tampa that the park will be used for lots of match day activities space and football pitches allowing.
Sort of like Henman Hill or Gow's Galley, Tainton Town, Mann's Moor etc… Suggestions on a postcard...
There are kids teams training in the park throughout the season. City fans have tried to interest BCFC in community events outside on matchdays - No interest.
It's time some of the old style thinking needs to be tossed in favour of more forward moving ideas. The North American model is strongly in tune with local commitment and involvement and I never thought I would say something along those lines due to my strong English roots - but there it is and you heard it here first. The ticket paying hordes are the life blood of how well a team is supported and the rest takes care of itself. Get on board City and find out what makes a supporter tick and you may have found the meaning of life, but remember all that infrastructure being built needs some tenants.
Not strictly true, though pretty much is the case; it's just that no one continent can host 2 in a row. Though naturally as we've seen money would almost certainly have been able to sway that.
That is not new football clubs were about local commitment and involvement surely? Bristol Sport are heavily focused on corp[orate money. Exclusive club this exclusive club that and id them running the show not a old style club or a new one. The new Williams might end up being called the exclusive stand yet.
