Looks like Bristol has been missed out of the potential England Rugby World cup grounds. Exeter has been chosen ahead of us. They said previously that Exter was on the shortlist only as a back up in case our stadium was being re-developed so would not be available so have they just gone ahead with Exeter and not taken the risk or has SL said that Ashton Gate is to be re-developed then....

They have not taken the risk.

We knew it was going to be that way but it still hurts me, that the sixth biggest city in England does not have a stadium suitable enough to host a tiddlywinks competition let alone a couple of Rugby World Cup matches.

The RWC has come at the wrong time. Within two years they could have played at the UWE Stadium, the finest sports venue in the South West. :)

I studied at UWE, and I can promise you that they'll find a way to **** you guys over.

Don't get me wrong, I think you guys deserve a new stadium and it'll be good for the area, but the universities reputation only exists because it has fantastic lecturers and professors there. The university is run by clowns, and expect corners to be cut. It wouldn't surprise me to see you guys postpone a match because UWE booked the pitch for uni girls hockey or something stupid...

Oh dear, didn't you get that 2.1? ;) The only thing I've noticed about UWE is that they've expanded and improved out of all recognition over the past 15 years, so they must be doing something right.

I can't speak about UWE highly enough, my son gained a BSc (hons) in computer sciences there, he basically said the same, tutors, professors and lecturers great.

I do like the arrangement though, car-parks, roads, sporting facilities all foc and they are still the landlords receiving rent for the land, classic...

My wife qualified as a nurse last year from UWE and never had anything good to say about them and said that if she had to do nursing again she would study somewhere else because they were so poor at communication and setting up events but who knows what involvement UWE will have with Rovers and their games.

Are you sure you've got it right wiz?

    Because from the mouth of Mr Higgs;

    * The stadium will be 100% owned by Bristol Rovers.

    * Confirmed UWE stadium costs (roughly) a £40 million project cost.

    * Out of the £40m, The cost to UWE for the land is £8m but NO money will actually be changing hands between Rovers and UWE. This £8m has been wiped out as it is absorbed by allocating money against the car park and continuous naming rights of the stadium along with all benefits to UWE such as full use of the stadium except matchdays along with allowing students to get involved in courses such as construction while the stadium is being built and then continued courses such as sports media, sports scicence. Thats the agreement set up between Rovers and UWE. UWE are happy to wipe out the £8m for the above benefits.

That sounds like a good business deal to me!

I think this simple statement is plain enough.....

' The University has agreed to lease an area of land to BRFC that will create significant benefits for students, staff and the community '.

From the same article from the Students Union Paper..

Is the University building the stadium?

UWE is not paying for the build of the stadium, just the car park which we need to build to replace car park 20 when planning permission for that runs out. We are selling/leasing the land at market rate so we have funds to help with other upkeep/refurbishment of the campus.

So it is most probable that Mr Higgs knows what he is buying and not leasing.

The pig is leasing an area of land but I do like the probable bit, I wonder how many more secrets his words are hiding, like profit, debt, how he is going to raise the in excess of £40m to pay for it all and I'm done with this discussion, it's going nowhere and to be honest I don't give a toss about Bristol Rovers...

Well we'll all have to decide who to believe.
The business man who set up the deal; A student rag or a rather miffed redman!

Sorry Saph, wrong, I'm not miffed, if you check back you will find I broke my own rules and congratulated your club on your own board on attaining permission to build your stadium and I meant it, you blues live in do-lally land, you are all like Alison in Wonderland and believe everything you are told without question..

I don't wish to argue with any of you, it's just a waste of time...
