Can't see a thread on this yet:

"Sky Sports understands Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is in the market for a new centre-half and Wales international Williams is thought to be on his wanted list.

Williams was outstanding for Swansea in their debut season in the Premier League last term and he missed only one game for the Welsh club.

He signed a three-year extension to his contract in August last year and is approaching 200 appearances for the club since joining from Stockport County in 2008.

A number of clubs are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old's situation and Pardew is looking to build a Newcastle squad capable of competing in both the Premier League and Europe this season.

Swansea would be reluctant to lose Williams, but could face a battle to resist any big-money offers for the highly-rated stopper"

Another "Sky Sports understands" story, but I'd be very heppy to see Williams in A Newcasle shirt. Would provide much needed comeptition and cover at CB.

    Thoughts?

Nobody giving Obi's thread much love tonight...

I think Williams looked class for Swansea, especially at ours, which was one of the most frustrating games I've ever watched. They sat back a bit, let us get wide and whip a few balls in, but the CBs were better in the air than you'd think and batted it clear every time.

Most of the Swansea players were decent with ball to feet, and Williams is pretty good too. I think he'd be a really good signing, but I can't see Swansea selling unless a stupid figure came in... And Liverpool are more interested in their midfielders at present <whistle>

The one major weakness with Swansea last year, for me, was that if the pressing didn't cut out the counters immediately, the CB were uncomfortable trying to chase a pacey break away. High pressing is always risky though. Overall I think he'd fit in with our style well and add to our team, but if his name was Jean-Ashley DeWilliams and he came with baguettes and an onion necklace, I think our management would be more interested!

Always give Obi's thread love. Just been looking through some of the pics from the Swansea game to see if I had any action pics with Williams on. Can just find our guys coming over to the fans after the match to applaud us.

    Swansea away game.

At least they showed some appreciation for the support they got. I think they were frightened to come over and applaud us after the Wigan away game.
