Not bad going... 50 goals and 46 fans: Non-league Ashley Flynn scores a half century please log in to view this image A non-league striker has eclipsed the goalscoring records of Jamie Vardy, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo with his 50th goal of the season. It may be only December, but Ashley Flynn is halfway to a century of goals in just 28 games. Flynn, 26, plays for AFC Emley, in the Northern Counties East Football League Division One - the the 10th tier of English football. His incredible run started with two goals against Rossington Main on 8 August and he has gone on to score six hat-tricks and twice managed five goals in a single game. The landmark 50th goal came on Wednesday in a 3-2 away win over Bottesford Town in the NCEL league cup. "I was not thinking about it at the time - it was a cup game and I wanted to win," said Flynn, who works as a litigation executive at a solicitors in his home town of Huddersfield. "It was only when I scored and the lads congratulated me that I realised what I had achieved." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34997314
I've seen him play this season and kept an eye on his ridiculous record. It's like the manager says, he isn't some kind of super all rounder, he's just a bloody amazing finisher in a good attacking side. I was surprised they'd scored 100 odd goals already. I knew about Flynn but had no idea they'd scored anything like that many. They're not even in the top three in the league.
Which may be relevant in the future. But for now, no relevance at all. We need firepower to get us out of this league, worry about if they're good enough or not once that's achieved.
And on the theme of relevance, this goal-machine has no relevance to us as far as football is concerned. You guys are talking as if he does. He's 10th tier having dropped down from 7th tier in recent years. That's about the equivalent of Tickler FC. Hope he gets 100 though, nice to see an amateur get some publicity
Vardy was an amateur too. I bet you would have liked to have signed him, all things being relevant of course. Or are you equally as dismissive of all strikers who have dared to apply their talents in the amateur leagues? Gayle, Austin, Vardy et al.
Vardy is ****e, just having a bizarre goalscoring run. Luciano Becchio once went on a bizarre goalscoring run in the championship, he wasn't even a league 2 strikers arsehole.
I cant wait to hear about a goalkeeper who is ****e but is just having a bizarre run at stopping shots...
Agreed. Signing someone from the 10th tier would be a terrible idea. City should never do that. Oh hang on.
and how many make it from the 10th tier to the Premier League successfully..... not too many at a guess
The fact the lad is 26 and already has had to drop down to the 10th tier suggests he probably won't be making an impact anywhere near championship level in his career. However it's quite an achievement, fair play to him. Might prompt a league two club to have a look at him at least
