If Liverpool come knocking (as is being heavily reported but that's not unusual) will he go?
And, would it be good business for the Swans and Ash himself.


(For the record I'd like to see him stay playing with us to the bitter end and then take up a role in the club. Phenomenal presence, inspirational, dedication to the game and quality of his are hard to come by.)

 

A giant on his day but like the whole team terribly inconsistent and is definitely replaceable imo. Oh and he was absolute pants yesterday.

 

"terribly inconsistent" a bit harsh in my opinion, but I don't see him being a viable option for Liverpool, squad member at best and at Ash's age would he settle for that? Financially it will obviously be a great move for him but at this stage it's games he wants surely.

 

Ash will finish his playing career with the swans that i have no doubt about....

Agree, but he's a big lad and at 30 isn't going to improve.
I't be great if he did stay and, in due course, lead the Wales team out in the European finals as a Swansea player but it may mean his playing time gets 'managed'.

 

Everybody has a price, as for dying for the shirt or loyalty lol, players are mavericks they are as loyal as the next pay cheque or how much they screw out of the club

 

"Dying for the shirt" is an emotive phrase that means little and doesn't equate to consistency.

Secondly, he has been a 'rock' in some games, no argument from me. He was anything but that on Saturday and if you were at the game or saw ALL of it (not the highlights) I can't see how you can disagree. First half he gave the ball away more than he passed to a white shirt. So much so that when we got a free kick some of the guys around me joked that we may as well give it to an Everton player to take. He did improve second half.

But this isn't one game imo. There are games when he looks edgy and indecisive imo and that spreads through the team.

On balance, I agree he's been a great CB for us and has stepped up to this level smoothly. Would I want to lose him? Definitely not. Is he replaceable? Like every other player, yes.

That's what the 'hell' I was talking about. Hope I've cleared that up for you.

 

I would say, looking at his performances over several seasons, that he is very consistent. He will have a poor game occasionally.

I'd put it higher than 'occasionally' but you wouldn't and that's cool.

 

Top top player deserves a crack at a big club but IMO he will not leave the club. Whenever Ash is out of the side we struggle defensively he's the backbone and leader of the club. Will go down as one of the club greats, no doubt about that, 30 for a centre back is not old at all. Most centre backs reach the top of their game at around that age, he has at least 3 or 4 good years left in him.

 

Hasn't he already said he's going to finish his career here recently? Had anyone else been in charge i think he might have moved on but with Monk in charge I see him staying.

Wow - that's worrying. If he's only staying on because his mate is in charge.

I think he's better and bigger than that.

 

Unlike Michu et al, he's showed his loyalty to our club. Also why would it be worrying? Maybe, just maybe, he'd like to help his mate take us on our next progressive journey.
After all Monk has taken us up a level this season.

 

Well,with Monk going on to bigger and better things next season,surely Jenkins will have earmarked Williams to become the new Manager at The Liberty.

If ash should leave then good luck to him but to lose a player like him and his leadership qualities who i now admire after thinking it was a bad choice at the beginning of his captains roll....I cant see him going anywhere myself and will finish his playing career with us and will move to take his badges in a coaching roll with view of taking over from monk in a few years time......
