Yes a good piece indeed, and as you say a legend, an old style player I have time for instead of so many prima donnas in todays game, shame but his sort seem to be dying out.

Did anyone listen to sportstalk the night he was on? I missed it and wondered if I could hear it anywhere? I know the bbc radio stuff only lasts for a week on listen again.

I used to work with the author of this piece, he's done well here. The only bit I would question is mentionning Stuart Green as being integral to our rise from the doldrums...

edit - and I was also annoyed by the story of Bullard and Ash in Vegas when he was described as a 'friend'. This bloke was a Premier League captain at the time (I think) and has a unique feat in English football to his name. Such a show of disrespect.

I quite often see Ash on my way to work in the morning.

A few times now he has been seen by Party turning the corner from Savile Street to King Edward Street for refreshments in Costa.

    He's quite tall.

There may never be another Ashbee. Captain your club through 4 divisions.. a proper football hero.

ha ha. You and Stuart Green again. I think he played a major part in our 2 promotions. You can't question that even if you don't like him as a person.

I really bloody can. How anyone can support a player who publicly celebrated an opposition goal whilst on the bench is beyond me.

No but the article refers to him nearly scoring in the draw that marked Big Phil's last game in charge.

    doesn't matter what he did.

He played a major part in our 2 promotions, played in alot of the games and scored some vital goals.

Ash made my life a misery. I would spend two thirds of most matches praising his tackles and then he would do something daft and the knockers would pounce. I admired him and then I stopped admiring him. It was that little prick Bullard that ended my belief that Ash was a legend. You see the truth is that players can play for a club every week, lead the team out through the divisions and still only be doing it because that's the job.
I watched some of that Scouse ****e on the tv the other night and one player stands out "Gerrard". In footballing terms he is a legend. Ashbee is a Hull City legend to many and yes I think that he deserves a high degree of admiration. I wish that he did have a testamonial, he deserved one. I would shake Ian Ashbee's hand and thank him warmly for all that he did for the club if I met him, but I now don't think that I would be in awe of him and for me that is what makes a legend.

    Gerrard?

Didn't he want a move to Chelsea few years back and got 'persuaded' not to by the shady locals?
