http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/09/tottenham-asamoah-gyan-sunderland Tottenham Hotspur will demand Asamoah Gyan as part of any deal when Sunderland bid for Peter Crouch, who is their No1 attacking target this summer. Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, has money to spend after the £20m sale of the midfielder Jordan Henderson to Liverpool and he urgently needs reinforcements up front, where Gyan is his only fit, established striker. Bruce, who has Fraizer Campbell as a long-term cruciate knee ligament casualty, wants to sign three new strikers. He would not want to lose Gyan, whom he signed from Rennes for £13m last summer, but the Ghanaian would relish the prospect of a move to Tottenham, as he prefers the idea of playing in London. Gyan is disappointed that his Ghanaian team-mates, Sulley Muntari and John Mensah, have left Sunderland to return to their parent clubs, Internazionale and Lyon respectively, following the end of their loan spells. Bruce was unhappy that Crouch chose Tottenham over Sunderland in the summer of 2009 when he left Portsmouth â Sunderland had offered £12m to Tottenham's £9m â but he is over the snub and he is ready to try again for the England international. Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, considers Crouch as the striker that he would most like to keep from his existing quartet. He is ready to sell Robbie Keane, who has fallen out of favour, while he would also listen to offers for Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe. Pavlyuchenko's £70,000-a-week wage has proved a stumbling block to moving him on in the past. Redknapp wants to create room for his priority signing, a high-quality centre-forward, and the latest name to be linked to the club is Adel Hernández, Palermo's 20-year-old Uruguay international. Tottenham have already seen an £11m bid rejected by Internacional for Leandro Damião, the 21-year-old Brazil striker, and they are expected to return with an improved offer. "It's true that Tottenham have made a bid," said Hernández's agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito. "But for the time being, I know that Maurizio Zamparini [the Palermo president] has turned it down, although I do not know what the figure was. If indeed it was â¬10m [£8.9m, as reported in Italy] then it would be considered too low as the value of the player in the market is â¬20m. The transfer market has just started so we will see what happens." Redknapp was asked whether Crouch would be leaving White Hart Lane this summer. "I doubt it," he said. "I like Crouchy. He is a good player for me and he is a great lad as well. I love him as a fella so he is really not one that I am looking to shift. We are looking to bring a striker in but he is not one of those that we want to sell if we can help it." Redknapp went on to acknowledge that Sunderland were particularly flush at present, although it is understood that Bruce has not yet been granted access to the proceeds of Darren Bent's £18m sale to Aston Villa. "Henderson has gone to Liverpool so they have got some money to spend," Redknapp said. "Perhaps Niall [Quinn, the Sunderland chairman] or Brucie will be on the phone trying to buy one or two of ours." Redknapp, meanwhile, feels that if Danny Rose is to become a "top-class Premier League player" it will be at left-back, where he filled in for the injured Benoît Assou-Ekotto at the end of the season, rather than further forward. Rose could get an opportunity in the position for England at the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark, following the withdrawal through injury of Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs. "Danny wouldn't be a top-class Premier League player in any other position but left-back," Redknapp said. "He wouldn't be a top wide left player, he wouldn't be a top central midfield player but I've said to him for a year now that he could be a top, top left-back. That's his position. He has a low centre of gravity, he is quick, he is aggressive and he's got a great left foot. He is a real left-back in my opinion and it will be a big competition next year between him and Benoît."
Good article mate. I think Gyan is a top player but not too sure that sunderland would want to lose another striker even if they bought crouch, defoe or pav from us. Gyan has physical presence and runs the channels fantastically and plays with real passion. would be delighted if Gyan arrives at the lane but i just cant see it. Regarding Danny rose i was pleasantly suprised with his performances at left back at the tail end of the season.and it is great to know that Benny and Rose will be competing for the left back position this coming season. A few months ago i was convinced Danny would be sold in the summer and it just proves how quickly things can change in football. With a lot of fringe players leaving lets hope Harry gives a chance to some of our promising young players. As we are in the Europa league i hope Harry keeps Caulker, Townsend Livermore and Kane rather than loan them out and Play them in the early stages of the cup competitions. We hear that Caulker could be set for a loan at Swansea and playing regular premiership football would be hugely advantageous but also training and learning off ledley king Gallas and Dawson would be a huge education for the lad.
I know Sunderland pretty much need a whole new 1st eleven as they didn't replace Bent in January and have lost Muntari, Welbeck, Mensah and released a few players. I wonder if we could sell them 2 of Keane, Defoe & Crouch and maybe get Gyan and a bit of money. That would be a real bonus as I feel it's more important we sell fringe players rather than buy this summer. Rose staying is good as I heard he was going to go on loan to Pompey and I feel him playing in the Championship would be a waste of time. I agree about the Europa league and playing Caulker, Townsend, Livermore and Kane.
Don't get me wrong Gyan is a really good striker and better than any of our current strikers but i don't think i would be happy with Gyan as our main buy. Gyan and Falcao then were talking but as a realist i don't think this will happen The good thing is we got strikers that sunderland would probably be interested in so if we were to maybe even offer Crouch and Defoe in a straight swap for Gyan? Would any of you lot accept that or do you think that's to much of a good offer for sunderland and were losing out?
Crouch is staying!!!! Out of the mouth of Harry himself. Keane is nailed on for Fulham. The only way Pav/Defoe will be leaving is if we receive silly money as levy does not do bargain deals when it comes to selling. Pav would have suitors across Europe and levy would be looking to get at least £13 mill for him. Defoe would have suitors within England but levy would be looking again for £12-14 mill. Only ones i could see paying that would be villa (coz they like to pay silly money) or Sunderland coz they have a bit of money. Therefore I can realistically only see keane leaving and a new striker in. That would leave us with 4 strikers and van der varrt which leaves us a bit top heavy upfront and a license for all the strikers to moan when they are not playing. I'd hope cash rich rubin Kazan come in for Pav, especially after his hatrick when with russia. He has a sweet strike but nothing else, just doesn't do it for me as a modern centre forward!!! COYS
Don - If we sell Crouch & Defoe then we should ask £5million as well as Gyan. Keane/Crouch or Keane/Defoe in a striaght swap would be cool though. I like Pav, I think he is the best striker we have. Gyan, Pav, VDV and A N Other would be a good strike force.
No your right croatia mate, i think Crouch and Keane in a straight swap for Gyan is more realistic for both parties and i think Bruce could possibly even go for that?
I think sunderland could have the pick of about 11 players at spurs Hutton, Naughton, Bassong, Bentley, Palacios, Kranjcar, Jenas, Crouch, Pav, Keane and Defoe
I think it will spark a transfer merry go round now sunderland have money. Bruce loves Hutton, Palacios and Crouch and their all fringe players at spurs who we want to get rid of. Let's stick 2 of those in a deal for Gyan plus Sunderland give us a bit of money. Palacios and Crouch in a swap for Gyan + 5 mil
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11675_6979183,00.html Asamoah Gyan has told skysports.com that he is flattered to be linked with Tottenham but insists he knows nothing of their reported interest. The Sunderland striker is being linked with a move to White Hart Lane, possibly as part of a deal which would see Peter Crouch move to Wearside. And Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that he could see Sunderland making an approach to them, given they have just pocketed £20million from the sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool. "Crouchie is not one we want to sell if we can help it. Henderson has gone to Liverpool, so Sunderland have some money to spend," he told The Sun. "Perhaps Niall Quinn or Steve Bruce will be on the phone trying to buy one or two of ours." No contact But Ghana superstar Gyan has now told skysports.com that he knows nothing of the reported link, insisting he has not been in contact with the capital outfit. "I am not aware of any contact from Spurs, I have a contract with Sunderland. At the moment it is rumours," he told skysports.com. "I was in London three weeks ago for an award in London with my good friend John Pantsil, not for a meeting with Spurs." But Gyan admitted Spurs would be an attractive proposition, adding: "Spurs are a fantastic club and any player would be flattered by their interest, so I am, but there is nothing I can do if Sunderland want to keep me."
Sunderland fan in peace. Would be surprised if we let Gyan go without a major back up plan, losing Henderson & Bent in such a short space of time has made a few fans restless at the SOL. Gyan is a fantastic player, on his day !, the really good thing about him is how well he has adapted to the physical side of the Premier League, however i suspect he may not get enough goals to go with this.
Don't forget our midfield is a lot better than yours ( No offence mate) so a player of Gyans quality getting the supply from the likes Of VDV, Modric and Bale is a different thing altogether. That saying your right, i just can't see sunderland getting rid of Gyan!!
Rose at LB could solve our LB problem. BAE isn't that good, so if we can get Rose up to scratch, then we've solved it. Hernandez is a really good young player, he'd be a great buy. And Gyan, well, his dancing at WHL, come on, we all want to see that surely!
I share your view on BAE. He seems to split opinion, but I would be glad to see Rose take his place. I see him as a liability, though some feel he was player of the season. If Spurs are to buy a striker, I think it needs to be someone top, top drawer. For me Gyan is no better than Pav, or Defoe (who I would pick ahead of Crouch). Not being in CL presents a problem with getting top drawer though. If a top player cant be attracted, then stick I say, and give the likes of Pav a run in the team. The guy can sure as hell finish. If he has an attitude problem, which I have heard suggested/implied, then maybe it stems from not being played enough.... chicken and egg?
I think you're right about Pav. On the Gyan front, he wouldn't improve us, as he's quite creative, but doesn't seem to score loads. Maybe if he was fed more, he might, but then no Pav, who I really rate
I wholly disagree with this. Gyan is a quallity, natural goalscorer but lacks other elements to his game. His goal ratio may not show him as a top scorer but he has often been moved to left wing in a front 3 and his two goals he scored against us this season were extremely well taken. Having a player who is used to playing upfront on his own would certainly improve us but I think Sunderland would try and take us for £20+mill if we really go for him.
I still maintain, either sign a top top striker, or don't sign one at all. No point signing players no better that those already on Spurs' books - which Gyan is not IMO.
True on the out of position bit, but he wouldn't fit in with us. We've got Bale and Lennon on the wings, and I think with either Pav or a new signing up front, Gyan doesn't fit in. He's not as good as Roman, IMO.
