ASAMOAH GYAN will finally quit Sunderland for the United Arab Emirates in a £7million switch.

The Ghana striker, 26, is expected to seal a £20m, three-year deal with Al-Ain in the next 48 hours. Gyan joined the UAE champs 10 months ago in a loan that netted the Black Cats £6m.

They will recoup the rest of a club-record £13m outlay when the £130,000-a-week deal goes through.

I don't see how this is good! In the current market £7M is chicken feed especially when they are prepared to pay (if correct) £20M over three years for him. Forget the Loan fee it shouldn't come into the equation as we don't have to sell and not to them either as he's our player. Personaly I think if these fiqures are correct then we've been mugged.

According to the manager or director at Al Ain they have taken up the option of making the deal permanent. It must of all been agreed in the contract when he went last season.

As long as we make a profit then great

So the nonsense about his possible return was just that, nonsense. We all know he was obviously doing it for monetary reasons and think when dealing with rich Arabs we could of been a bit more coy getting back what we paid is nothing to be shouting about.

Al ain or what ever they are called have shafted themselves as they will get nothing for him when he leaves them. At least we got our money back.

I'd change the title of this article mate, for one beautiful minute I thought it was going to say we were getting £20m for Gyan...

To be fair, £6m loan fee + £7m permanent fee represents bad business. Especially given the fact they're prepared to whip £20m of wages his way.

Money back, but I get the impression he would have commanded a bigger fee had he been sold into Europe, he had (still has?) some silky skills.

We never paid £13million as he never played 50 games.

WE also saved millions of wages, and therefore this is a smashing deal for the club.

His value to us last season was NIL, we scored £13million.

    Bye bye, and good riddance.

So his transfer fee equals one year of his salary.

So, if Short was only going to outlay say £10 out of his own pocket for transfers ths close season. We would also have an additional £20 spnsorship, £7 for Gyan, about £6-£7m from our own player sales and £40m from Sky Sports. Well that makes a transfer kitty of about just over £80M not including the sales of season tickets and new home/away kits etc, etc.

Anyyhow back to reality - bet we only spend about £15m ...Ha ha ha !

The Sky money 'pays the bills' as it where, we lost a few million last season, that the bigger sponsorship wipes out (leaving a good £15million!)

I'd assume that, plus the Gyan money is the spends, giving us approx £25-30million.

Add to that the Adidas & Kitbag money (won't be pennies!)

Importantly though, Flash & Ringo were on massive contracts, and they are gone, their contracts alone will wipe out the defecit of last year.

    We are in great shape.

Realistically guys, what players do you think would suit your club/O'Neill's style of play?

There's a lot of you pining for Johnson but he's fairly one dimensional, he doesn't have a great pass on him, can't spot an early ball and has relatively slow pace for a winger. Yeah, he can cross a ball but who's gonna head it in? Sessegnon and Campbell are what 5' 6"? Johnson will get you 10 goals a season but you'd have to make Larsson redundant, or McClean because they're both wingers and both score goals anyhow.

I think you need a goalscorer and a very decent CM, Vaughan, Gardner and that guy who keeps getting sent off are not good enough in CM. The first two played in teams that got relegated, they just don't cut it vs the calibre of Ramires, Scholes, Gerrard, Parker, Cabaye, Yaya Toure, I could go on. If you spend £7-8m on a really decent holding midfielder and £10-12m on a goalscorer (not Fletcher) you could progress massively next season.

Sessegnon will spray the ball around and create for fun, providing you have somebody behind him in CM who can compete with the top athletes in the league and allow him to do so.

Your defence was solid, you conceded less than Arsenal and the same as Chelsea, you have added Cuellar as well so it's an area that doesn't need tinkering.

Which players could fill the two positions that need attention, realistically?

    Terry H you quoted.

That's the problem, no-one really knows and just hoy in random names....

We ain't gotta clue just how much coin MoN is gonna have. We just like to guess that we know, same as everyone..

Wouldn't mind young Danny W back mind.

Had actually put Gyan , just like Bent, out of my thoughts, once out of the door, and Ive got used to the Idea, I try to move on. Not always easy when their names crop up from time to time, then the bitterness returns. Feel for the folks who had Gyan printed on their shirts.

No one will touch the guy in Europe though. He lacks the ambition and desire to play top class footy imo and he has opted for a league where he can be as unfit and fat as a big market slag and still get £130k per week. You will never see Gyan playing for a top class team in a top class league ever again imo.

We did well to get back the £13m we paid.

as we all know MoN likes to play counter attacking football and to play that at its best you need pace all over the pitch so I'm sure that will be addressed this transfer market along with goals! We need to score more goals and two maybe three will come in IMO depending on what happens to Wickham and Ji, if one or both go out onloan I personally think we need a 3rd striker coming in.

As for players coming in then your guess is as good as mine but players that could possibly be available and who we might have a change of getting are...

Martin Olsson, the club has lacked a proper left back for years, the lad has pace to burn, gets forward well and is good at the defensive work, with Blackburn going down he could be available for as little as 3-4m

As you say we lack a very decent CM, we need someone who can add something totally different to what we have, I would of loved Manu Fernandes but it seems as though the player and Besiktas have managed to sort things out, maybe Moussa Sissokho from Toulouse. As you say with Sess just infront we have our playmaker we just need someone to compete and add a touch of class behind him and I think Sissokho would be a good acquisition.

As for further up the pitch we seriously lack a pacy, direct winger to play on the right, Junior Hoilett or Adam Johnson would be perfect for us, both would add that bit of class and would grab a few goals for us. One of them, Sess and McClean would be a handful for any team and I'm sure they will create chances for our forward/forwards whose job will be to get the goals.

Ad for strikers it seems like Fletcher is the number 1 target and I personally would be happy with him, in a side with Sess, McClean and a Hoilett/Johnson all just playing behind him he could get around 15goals for us I rekon. As for others Saha would a good addition on a free IMO, we do not have unlimited funds and a player like Saha coming in for free on a years contract with maybe a second year if he does well would be a good squad signing by the club. If Wickham or Ji does go out on loan them maybe go for someone a bit different and tackle a gamble, Yilmaz maybe or try and get Lukaku or Guidetti in on loan.

Its certainly going to busy this summer at the SoL with players coming and going, if MoN has funds available I am confident we will have an improved squad when the transfer window slams shut

Cest - probably not now but why wouldn't anyone have touched him in Europe last season before he left to play in UAE?

Commachio - Fair point, doubt you'll be seeing Welbeck in a Sunderland shirt again mind. Would you be happy with Rhodes (£6m) and Lukaku on loan? I think they're both realistic and promising players. Don't forget you're going to need players who can naturally finish in order to develop Wickham, he won't develop on his own especially with hardly any game time.
