Thankfully artifical pitches have improved since NE installed one in the 80s. That pitch brought in extra revenue for the club at the time: it could be used as many times a week as needed and by different sports. And less matches were cancelled due to a frozen pitch. I heard that cricket & American gridiron (it's not football) rugby were played on it. Not only could such a pitch bring in extra revenue now but also provide extra employment in the City. I do not understand the 'turf is sacred' argument because the turf is renewed each year: the pitch is not the pitch the Invincibles used! One could argue then that pulling down the old stands was a barbaric thing to do. So come on TH, splash the cash that you have saved by avoiding tax on an artificial pitch & reap the rewards: a glorious NE! and a few bob as well. It may even increase the value of the team!
