Maltese Mick - the sites owner has posted the following on the Moderators thread BHD, Norway and I have been trying to understand what is needed and whether we have someone / some people who can help here Someone with an interest in following the News about Watford and then turning it into a post which can be "promoted" to an Article is what is needed. It may be almost that we need a little group of people who could agree between them to cover and trawl the news for Watford items and then get a decent post going on it - not just "I saw this, here is the link" but a small piece that can be made an Article. It is very important as it could raise the profile of Watford massively on Newsnow.co.uk Our "Group" would need to cover news quickly so 24 hour coverage would be great. Mick rightly makes the point about good grammar and spelling - but as it is a Mod who has to move the post to an article the Mod will "spell and grammar" check so don't let lack of a degree in English put you off. There will then be a next layer of "Spell Police or Grammar Nazis" who double check the Articles before they go to Newsnow. We have some budding authors and super bloggers - can we get a few names together to "promote" Watford to the World Thoughts/ suggestions / volunteers now greatly appreciated
if he has time, our budding author BBW could be a place to start. There isn't much news to write about in the small hours, almost all of it emerges during the daytime
Well BBW and yourself would be two clear members of a "Group" - or even a "dynamic duo" Without being rude to all our other contributors - and there may be plenty of budding authors amongst them - or giving away too many confidences - the both of you were unanimously viewed as hoped for volunteers by BHD, Norway and myself
thank you Leonardo . i'm flattered! I'm not sure i'm much of a writer to be honest, but as you know, i'd do anything for the good of the site...though seeing what's needed, it seems basically to be copying articles written by others, perhaps will a little re writing, and then reposting them?
No - I think it will be about finding news reports and then setting up a post that comments on them - hopefully provoking a discussion - Newsnow are unlikely to want just news raw as that can be found on Sky and BBC etc - the will want opinions on the breaking news - and here is our reporter from Vicarage Raod - H !! The Mod will then do the boring bit of checking spelling and promoting it to Article status
So we are looking for opinion pieces essentially then on various aspects relating to Watford? How long would they need to be? I have a few other writing commitments but I would have thought I could produce something if needed.
I am sure they do not need to be long - depending on what the news is they could just be a paragraph to generate more discussion or be longer and give views too - time will help show what is wanted - but your contributions are always well reasoned so I am sure you would help a lot
Leo , spot on mate , and eloquently posted ,Hornette your blogs are very well written witty and incisive, exactly what we are looking for IMO , You were my first thought after considering the problem for at least 0.003 seconds! BBW came to mind quickly too as I have suggested him for this sort of job before! There are a lot of excellent contributions on this board that could also do a very good job as well in producing high quality articles! Cmon guys think about getting some of your work out there on Newsnow!
I think you get the idea. The way i look at it is we get 2/3 people together who write a paragraph or two on any news stories (signings, sales and the like) that appear. The detail will need to be more than in the short news thread, but need not be a full BBC article running into pages. I would also agree that BBW and H would be great candidates and we will likely need to share the load come the season and if the 5 new signings are to be believed.
I could do it, former English student, and when not at my P/T job im hooked into SSN/Watford rumours/talksport/not606 (and twitter) so I'm usually not far behind the breaking news. The problem however, is finding a news piece that genuinely warrants a decent length article rather than a short bulletin... For example we could do match reports, a complete pre-season review and transfer review. Other than that, season quarterlies might work.
i agree Kingy, it's difficult to imagine exactly what they're looking for without paraphrasing articles that are already written. Still, worth a try
whatever it is, it has to be original...ish. Instead of regurgitation it definitely has to be opinion as someone said above.
