We must be some way behind liverpool in terms of our wage bill by now, and we have always been well behind the big 3 clubs of city, chavski and manure.

Add in the fact we dont spend any money on transfers, and its obvious why we are battling for 4th and not the title.

In the most recent football report we had the 5th biggest wage bill (about 10% below liverpool in 4th). Our net spend on transfers is negative over the last 6 years. But since then liverpool have made a series of signings with few outgoings, and their squad has balooned to a large size. Meanwhile we have sold easily our biggest earner (cesc) and a few other first team players, whilst bringing in young players who will surely be on less money.

I guess the question that I want to discuss is: Is this sustainable? It looks like this year we will not qualify for the champions league, and I can see our squad declining in quality as a result. It will be impossible to bring in top class players within our wage structure when that happens. But we wont be able to increase the wage bill/transfer spending because we wont be in the champions league.

I also think its obvious that the emirites wont be full every week if this side is devoid of any talent (say rvp and TV leave as they probably will after this year). It wont be full because tickets are so expensive, and the side will be terrible.

So what is the future for arsenal? I honestly dont think we are a big club anymore. The last pillar of us being a big club is our champions league participation. That will go after this season (maybe even tonight). Then what?

No buisness can suceed without significant investment. The arsenal have been making profits and not reinvesting them in the team. The whole club is irrelevent compared to the team on the pitch. AT the end of the day, it is the team which brings in ALL the money.

Arsenal is like a manufacturing business which hasnt upgraded its old machinery in 10 years. And now it is paying the price. Sure, they made nice money over those 10 years, but now the lack of investment is going to cripple the business.

    Board out.

    why get the board out??/
they are changing slowly, we used to never hear anything about transfers untill it was a done deal, this season they are coming out sooner, eg campbell before he actually signed

give them time and they might up the wage cap to get the players needed for them to keep getting the cl income

How are you going to get rid of the board when one member of the board owns 60% + of the club.
Personally it wouldn't bother me if our attendances dropped,at least the fans that would be left would be true fans rather than the glory hunting plastics that fill our stadium now
