I think Colo has done everything to deserve his armband. Intelligent, skillful and probably the most consistent player last season, even more so than Barton and Tiote IMO.

But looking ahead, do you reckon Cabaye could be a great captain in the future?

He didn't know much English before he came here, but by the 2nd game of the season, the Sunderland game, he seems to be good enough with English to tell ****s like Bardsley and Cattermole to **** off haha, so he seems to be settling in to English football well.

He's aggressive, a good tackler, has a ****ing brilliant and powerful shot on him, and he shows sparks of creativity. He doesn't make a fantastic pass as frequently as Barton yet, but he's still getting used to the league.

He's got an assist already, regardless of whether or not it was a pass, his shot lead to the goal, and in the first 3 games that's been one of his strong points. His shooting is excellent and causes problems for the opposition. I reckon we'll see some cracking goals from him this season.

He seems strong and aggressive enough to cope with the English game, and IMO he seems to be adapting pretty quickly, the only thing he really needs to get used to is the pace of the passing. His technique is fantastic, but the speed of the game is understandably just a little bit to quick for him atm, but he's still contributing in a lot of ways.

I think in a season or two, he'll be perfect to fit the captains role. IMO he has the right attitude and has the potential to be a better player than Barton is.

I think Pardew has made a great buy and i think he's a perfect replacement for Barton, and also could be a great leader in the future. Newcastle fans love an aggressive ****er, one that can tackle, and tell another player to **** off, but not get sent off stupidly.

Anyone else agree?

Plus, he's better looking than Barton, and once he marries a stunner we'll be top of the wags table again

 

Totally agree, he looks class and if he picks up the language quickly - he could be our new captain if Colo leaves in the summer (which I sadly think he might )

 

I think he's another Tiote, one of the bargains of the season. However after Colla I see Saylor as captain, inspirational, knows what the club means to the fans. Also I think it's preferable for a centre half to be captain, as they can see all the play panning out in front of them. I'm sure that contributed to Pardew's decision to give Colla the armband.

Give him a season or so and I think he'll be our best player and one of the best midfielders in the premier league. I would never take the captaincy of Colo because he is a fantastic captain and he fully deserves the honour. I think your right in saying that Cabaye would be an excellent captain and i agree with the majority of what was said in the original post. When Colo retires the armband should be Cabaye's or Saylor's. We are lucky to have 3 excellent candidates and they would all do a fantastic job.

 

Gotta agree Tashy Cabaye, will be a captain in the future if we keep hold of him. Without doubt. So far, im extremely pleased with the signing.

Future vice captain, if all goes to plan. It's written in the stars that Stevie Taylor is next to get the armband.

 

Cabaye doesn't particularly strike me as a player who can inspire others, IMO to be a captain you need to have the ability to motivate fellow team mates, build an effective team bond and have a purpose. Colo can do this much better in rallying the team together, Saylor is a potential captain.

 

Very true! Even Tiote could be a contender for captain I think.

He doesn't come across as captain material to me, a fantastic player but not a captain whereas Colo, Saylor and Cabaye strike me as captains for some reason.

Wasn't Cabaye Lille's captain? He did a pretty decent job of that, although i'd prefer Saylor as next captain for reasons already stated

 

Nah, Tiote is a cracking player but not the captain type at the moment. Maybe in 4-5 years.
