The European yearling sales marathon kicks off this week with the bandwagon having just rolled into Deauville for the Arqana Yearling Sale which begins today. The schedule for the yearling sales season is as follows: Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale: 31 Aug to 1 Sept BBAG Yearling Sale (Germany): 1 to 2 Sept Doncaster St Leger Festival Yearlings: 8 Sept Then many agents/trainers will head to the USA for Keeneland September which runs from 12 Sept to 23 Sept. At the same time in Europe: SGA Yearling Sale (Italy): 19 to 20 Sept Tattersalls (Ireland) September Yearlings: 20 to 21 Sept Goresbridge (Ireland) Flat Yearlings: 21 Sept Then Goffs Orby Yearlings: 27 to 29 September Tattersalls October Book 1: 4 to 7 October Tattersalls October Book 2: 10 to 12 October Tattersalls October Book 3: 13 to 15 October Deauville Yearlings: 17 to 19 October Goffs Open Yearlings: 21 October SGA Yearlings (Italy): 4 November Then it is in to the breeding stock sales in the USA and Europe before rounding out the year back in Newmarket for the mammoth December Sales which runs from 21 November until 2 December. Of the above yearling sales, the most important (in terms of quality on offer) are this weekâs Arqana sale, Goffs Orby Sale and Tattersalls October Book 1. Other sales certainly have their place, and Doncasterâs Premier Sale has produced a number of good bargain buys over recent years including Canford Cliffs and Paco Boy â it pays to note purchases made by Peter Doyle (main buyer for Richard Hannon) at this sale! Over the next few weeks I will go through the catalogues for the main sales and will also report results back as and when I can. Each of the sales companies has its own website so you can easily track down catalogues and sales results, and in many cases watch live footage of the sales as they happen. I will try to do a brief run-down of the Arqana Sale later today so you know what to look for (Iâll put up a separate thread for each sale to save them becoming too long) but in the meantime if anyone has a generic sales question put them up on here.
Thanks PN. I must say watching the footage of the Tattersalls sales on the website is quite addictive
I agree, it is very addictive! I've flicked through the catalogue for Tattersalls October Book One and can see I will be glued to the computer once again! I will spend a bit of time up at the sale watching lots go through, but the sales ring is not the warmest place at the best of times and cold dark autumn evenings are best spent in a warm house I find!
