I'm pretty sure if the Don is watching on from somewhere, he can't be too impressed. Club shopping in the bargain basement with apparently little or no ambition to reach the premiership. Content to pick up journeymen and players no one else wants on the cheap. One of the few qualities seemingly required of any prospective signing, is that they dont look for more than 10k a week. You can butter it up any way you like, but our transfer activity over last twelve months has been nothing short of shocking. We really are in grave danger of taking backward steps this season

I think if the Don was at the club now, he would have took one look in the Stationery cupboard, seen that there were no brown envelopes and told Cockney Ken to shove his jon up his arse!!

Then he would have joined the Pakistani Cricket team <cheers>

I think its such a different world.....
he would have been in prison for murder off a few.......

its amazing the change in football and ive seen allot and im still young (41 :) )
Sky have changed the face of it the money is crazy....

But Don...im sure would have had the dressing room and the squad...that class is perminant and not temporary....its about the man..
if he wanted a player he got them.....

im sure also he would not have let a player go that he wanted.... the power was with the Manager.... in those days...

pretty sure he would be spitting blood right now!!!!

but i believe we will be back...might take a while but we will.....

Intersecting replies lads. I too think well be back but am increasingly convinced it won't be under Bates. He hasn't either the know how or financial clout to get us up. I just hope we don't go the other way.

dON had a very good relationship with Harry Reynolds he wouldn,t have worked with Bates for one minute its about time Simon stood up yo him and said back me or sack me. I hope nobody buys Gradel shirts this season without a buy back clause because I,can,t see him here for much longer .According to the papers we have lost out on the Stockdale deal surprise surprise apparently he could have earned more at Bradford City!

Agree with Spanish, it's a different time and football has completely changed. Don Revie is probably watching and like most of us, really upset at the way the club is now run and specifically by whom. There is little doubt that Bates and Revie don't match, so Bates would have got rid of him well before he asked for anything. Grayson is a yes man, I know that and I'm sure many others now realise that, so he fits perfectly into Bates pocket. The club is rotten to the core and when Bates dies, the information we then get will shock many. RIP Don, our best years were with you and will probably never return.

Boycot....is sad and a little naive.

We need the income to survive the onky thing we would be hurting is the club again....and we would find ourselve sin admin...selling players and back in L1

we have to hope that someone will see the potiential and buy bates out....but i think he believes he can get us back there on a shoestring then make his money....

    but....its my POV..... :)

You could also say Don wouldn't be paying over-paid premadonnas ridiculous wages. If Larry says "back me or sack me" he'll get sacked and someone worse will come in.
