What a difference a week makes A week ago we were all glued to the TV/Radio/PC/Phones awaiting the news that Tony Fernandes would be taking over QPR as majority shareholder along with the Mittal family. This takeover would free us from the uninterested clutches of Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatori and give us fans back the club we all love. Last season I had many debates with posters on BBC 606 regarding the future of QPR. I remember being mocked by Leeds,Watford,Reading,Palace and millwall fans who laughed at the way our club was being run. They all laughed about our manager âmerry go roundâ the âlack of moneyâ being spent and the famous â15 point deductionâ which seemed to concern them more than us. I said then that QPR would get promoted and that the club was going forward. Our sponsors were top notch, the team was good and our profile shot through the roof not just here but around the World, and of course we had the best manager in the league. I said to those posters that QPR were a million miles away from them. For that comment I was ridiculed. Now and after the news this week maybe I should have said 10 million. Our win last week at Everton meant more than just 3 points, for me it was like what the fans chanted âRangers are backâ. We all remember the âdark daysâ the âbucketsâ the âVauxhall motorsâ the game at Cardiff but now is a new era for the club and for once I can be sure that our great club will be run properly and compete in the top flight. As I am writing this we are still awaiting the signature of Joey Barton, whether he signs or not (as some think) it proves that our backers want to get in quality players. Yesterday we sold Gorkks and many questioned why we would sell one of our better defenders. The answer is is that we have better coming in. I trust NW and I trust the board. Between then they will run our club properly and that is what most of us want. You Râs
This is our chance to cement our PL status for many many years to come. There are 3-4 clubs (everton, wigan etc.) with absolutely no money to spend and this will be the reality for others as the economic downturn really starts to bite. It's now the survival of the fittest and I believe we have the resources to keep our noses in front of most of these clubs. This is a great opportunity for TF and Mittals. Don't fk it up for us!
