Now, we've played the lower league teams, up next up are the big teams. Real Zaragoza and Parma are two top-flight teams who last season finished 13th and 12th respectively. A couple of seasons a go Real Zaragoza finished 2nd. With the new season two weeks away we are going to see what the first team may be on the first day of the season and how we may fare. Lambert has said 'it is going to be irrelevant what happens. It is the Wigan game we have to be ready for and I am pretty sure once it starts for real, the football will become a different breed. I never read too much into pre-season, that is not my concern. My concern is the lads donât get injured and they are fit for that first game, and I know when the team goes out at Wigan, then that is the time to judge. We are experimenting with certain things, different formations and personnel.' Results have clearly meant nothing up to now. Will that be different for the final two games? All these games appear to be is a kick about.
I don't think you can look on them as a kick-about! Paul Lambert is a master tactician, he knows many different styles and formations as we have all seen over the last two years! These pre-season games are used to try all the different formations, with all the various members of the squad, to find out which are best suited to any given formation, and also to get the squad used to the different styles of play so that they can adapt when the need arises! That is why results of the pre-season friendlies are of no real concern! If only the Pink'un posters could understand that concept!!!!
Zaragoza have apparently lost a couple of their better players as they are in a bit of a financial crisis. If this is true they appear to be the easier of the two games, but you know with Norwich they'll probably beat us 3-0 and we'll then beat Parma 3-0.
