Well after witnessing that debacle I'd say that I bet just about everyone on the pitch has just guaranteed those who were watching from afar their starting place against Chelski. I honestly cannot think of many who would deserve a place in the starting eleven based on tonight's game. I feel most sorry for poor Declan as there was precious little he could do about any of the four goals. It was defensive suicide for three of the four goals and I hope he doesn't dwell on tonight's game. Jackson and Korey ran themselves into the ground and at least showed willing but alas the final product was poor from both. Wilbraham showed little movement and was easy to mark out of the game. He didn't win that many headers either! Surman and Hoolahan were poor compared to the highs they have reached in the past. Both misplaced several passes and nothing came off whatsoever for either. Russel Martin looked dodgy against pace again and his crossing was poor tonight - although there was precious little movement in the box for him to pick out a decent run. Ayala had a torrid time trying to pick up the Dons front target man (who did an excellent job holding the ball up an linking the play for the Dons). He couldnt get in front of him to nick it off him and some crisp Dons passing turned the defence too often tonight. Whitbread did OK I guess. Made a couple of decent tackles although he did seem to lack pace when covering. His positioning was generally good and distribution OK. Drury - well he just looked short of match fitness. Before his bad mistake he made an excellent interception when a ball was fizzed across the six yard box and he covered behind the centre backs. I thought to myself at the time - so good to have Ads back then a few minutes later he dwelled on the ball and the rest we know about! Fox did OK but nothing more. Most midfielders can happily knock a ball ten yards sideways or backwards but he offered little of his trademark long field balls and switching the point of attack. Lappin was tidy when he came on although by that time the game was lost. De Laet is quick - really quick but even he made a hash of a couple of high balls but he will learn to improve his positional play hopefully, negating the necessity to use his speed to cover any mistakes. Morison did OK whipping in a couple of crosses which created chances for others but he should be in the middle on the recieving end of those if the wingers/wide midfielers/wing backs did their job properly! You have to say that MKAFC Wombles played very well. I just thought we looked too slow and predictable in possesion with no real cutting edge against a well organised team. When they won the ball back they broke with purpose and looked a potent threat.
I really agree with everything here, and I don't want to read too much into this one game but most of those players where disappointing, and one of things we've been raving about at this club - competition for places suddenly seems to be gone already. I feel for Jackson, because he always ends up chasing high balls whenever he plays which isn't his strength.
