Northenders. After weeks of boredom speculation despair and hope, we now find ourselves on the brink of a new season and whatever it has in store for the mighty lilywhites and we supporters. Every single team in football will be trying and hoping to have a successful season and please their supporters. PNE are one of these teams and will be looking to bounce back up to the championship after their relegation to Div 1 last season. PNE have had an exodus of many players during the close season and of late brought new players into the club. Phil Brown the manager has had to assemble what he sees as a new competitive squad , and even at this late hour the squad is still not quite complete with the possibility of one or two new players yet to join PNE. Indeed there could be the odd player still to depart Deepdale, but we hope that is not the case. There can be little doubt that the manager has been hampered by all the comings and goings and the club having very little in the way of money to help finance any new deals. Phil Brown has said on more than one occasion that he wants the team to hit the ground running from the very first match, preseason fitness work has gone well including the pre season fixtures etc, but due to several late arrivals at the club it may take a while for the team to gel and show the fans just what they might be capable of. So then fellow PNE supporters the stage is set with aspirations and confidence high and the big question is can PNE rise to the occasion and deliver what all the fans want and that is PROMOTION. There has been much debate/argument/criticism of events at Deepdale during the close season by many many PNE supporters and at times quite heated, but now is the time for all the supporters to put all this to one side and SUPPORT the club/manager/team regardless of past events. The club/manager/team NEED our total support and deserve it, if PNE are to bounce back from our relegation then our support could well be the ace in the pack that enables success to be achieved. All your thoughts are welcome on this thread but let us all attempt to be positive, and remember that for all Northenders there is only one club and that is PRESTON NORTH END. I hope that all of us enjoy the season whatever it may hold, we are ALL football supporters as well as being PNE supporters. PNE are about to rumble and give it their best shot, let us all do our bit and help them. TFP
It will happen maclad.......just dont ask me when.. Excitement beginning to build now ready for the big kickoff, looks like being a wet start to the season.......but who cares...
To football fans everywhere. I hope you all enjoy the coming season and have success in one way or another. For some of you it will end in tears (like us last season) and for others it will be triumph in one way or another. At the end of the day we are all the same and will support our clubs whatever the season has to offer. All the best and good luck to all of you, not forgetting our own PNE fans of course.. THE BIG DAY HAS ARRIVED.......thank goodness.
Yes. Arrived with a 'plop' rather than a bang. All the old problems resurfaced, with defenders all over the place. Listened to PB on Radio Lancs. Interesting comment about unacceptable behaviour from some. He also said that new foreign signing on the way.Things are warming up. Should be an interesting next few days.
A defence that parted quicker than Gordon Brown parted with the countries money. Shambolick, Kamazee or p*ss poor take your pick. Turner didn't have the best of games. However all is not doom and gloom a bit of fine tuning a couple of new players and we won't be far away. Both our goals were quality however all theirs were gifts. The refereeing was substandard didn't realise pulling an opponents shirt had been ruled a legal move. But time to move on after all they stuffed Norwich 7-1 and Norwich won the league that season.
Not what the Doctor ordered that's for sure maclad. I have to agree with your comments and add that there were times when we looked like a team that had just been assembled prior to the game, although there were other times when we put things together nicely. As you have commented we gave them all four goals and payed the price for it. Our two goals were well worked with the second goal being an early contender for the goal of the season, a brilliant goal at any football level. I dont think that the 4 3 3 formation worked and we lacked width having to rely on either Proctor or Mellor having to go wide while Hume was playing behind them. Neither fullback was able to make any telling contribution going forward to provide width for the team. Proctor had run himself out by mid second half and should have been replaced. The ref was poor and far too fussy and inconsistent which stopped the game from flowing as it should. A left full back is urgently required and Maclean did not impress me playing at right back, so we need Conner back as quickly as possible. It will take a few games for the team to gel and and also for Brown to decide what is the best formation and team selection. We are still short of two/three players. I enjoyed the start of a new season and am not downbeat about the home loss today, you can and do get some some odd results at the start of the season. Colchester did not impress me but they did take their chances (gifts) very well and it's goals that count and they got them so well done to them. A healthy home gate for PNE all things considered lets just hope that they all return for PNE's next home league game.
Agreed Plumb, actually think Alex at right back until Connor Mac's fit playing behind Mayor would done wonders for the youngster. Should have gone 442 a bit earlier, as you say they were one of the better teams last season apart from a free kick which was well saved by Turner didn't think they created anything. One thing we wil take on board this will be a physical division. By the way we've signed a lad from Germany http://www.pnefc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10362~2412321,00.html
First half in particular I thought Parry did a more than decent job at LB and looked quite solid, but obviously missed an outlet (such as Treacy) in front of him. Same could be said for McLean re not having an outlet in front of him, he certainly isn't equipped to play a wing full back position. Carlisle was also very solid in the first half, but he and Morgan combined to create disaster in the second, and Turner looked very jittery to me today. I had heard one or two rumours that Mellor was going next week before this lad from Germany was mentioned, so maybe should this new signing go through Mellor could be leaving. Thought Mellor did ok today and put in a good shift today.....
