Well the transfer window is now closed and we didnt get what we all want a 20 goals a season man. Since our move to the SOL we have had 2 yes 2 strikers that fit that description SKP and Judas.I think the previous 20 goal man was Marco Gabbadini but dont quote me. When SKP was unveiled as an untried striker no one dreamt what was to follow, It was different with Judas who had succeeded at Charlton but he went on to do the business and we all loved him for it until he sought pastures new. The point Im trying to make is that everyone wants SB, SNQ and Short to stump up the brass and get another one signed up but where do you find him. There was a hint of what Judas could bring us but no one could forsee SKP impact on the club, so there is no magic formula that decrees that Cissee or whoever we brought into the club this window would be the one, Im sure Bendtner isnt going to score on that scale but he might, just might harvest 20 plus goals out of Gyan and the midfield, fingers crossed. So there is no magic formula in finding star strikers cause if there was we who have expressed an opinion these past few days would all be managers and not just supporters who want what is best for the club at the end of the day. That dosent stop us all from having an opinion on the subject though does it.
2010/11 1 Dimitar Berbatov Man Utd 20 2 Carlos Tevez Manchester City 20 2009/2010 1 Didier Drogba Chelsea 29 2 Wayne Rooney Man Utd 26 3 Darren Bent Sunderland 24 4 Carlos Tevez Manchester City 23 5 Frank Lampard Chelsea 22 2008/2009 0 2007/2008 1 Cristiano Ronaldo Man Utd 31 2 Emmanuel Adebayor Arsenal 24 3 Fernando Torres Liverpool 24 2006/2007 1 Didier Drogba Chelsea 20 2005/2006 1 Thierry Henry Arsenal 27 2 Ruud van Nistelrooy Man Utd 21 2004/2005 1 Thierry Henry Arsenal 25 2 Andrew Johnson Crystal Palace 21 I think that just shows, they are very rare, and dont come around too often, and usually, they do it once and never again.
If Gyan and Bentner get 20 odd goals between them I'll be happy enough, as long as the midfield chip in with a similar ammount.
As I've stated many times on here, goal scorers of that calibre are as rare as hens teeth...Super Kev and Marco were two players no one had heard of when they arrived here, but I dare bet they would be in most supporters, of a certain age, top five all time players...We can all live in hope that we will unearth another gem like them one day...
TBH I don't care how many goals each team member scores, it would be nice to score loads, but if we win most of our games 1-0 / 2-1, I'll still be very happy.
I like the theory that 2 x 10 - 15 goals a season strikers are better than 1 x 20 - 25 goal a season but thats not my beef these days. Quinny stated publicly back in January that if necessary, we would break out transfer record to get his (Bent) replacement this summer after saying that January was not the right time to do it. Thats fine but in saying so, it built up our expectations that a top (expensive) striker would be sought and bought. Was it merely a cynical ploy to appease the fans at the sale of Bent and to maintain seasonn ticket sales renewals 2 months later? I really hope it wansnt. I think its really time that someone politely told Quinny to keep his gob shut about signings and world class players/managers from now on because he keeps making big statements and then doesnt deliver on them. Far better he just says **** all, as feeding false hopes into the equation creates a deep seated feeling of being diddled.
Interesting stats. Especially when you note apart from Judas and Andrew Johnstone the rest all played for a top 4/5 team. Rare beasts indeed that ordinarily don't play for teams of our stature. I don't personally think we need a 20 goal man. We do however need a midfield that will chip in it's fare share. Something we have been very lacking in. Something we may just have now. Fingers crossed.
If Bruce actually gets round to actually playing them of course. Larsson at his prefered position of right wing; Sess over to the left; Gardener through the middle and Vaughan in for Catts and Colback to add a bit of creativity. Then maybe Gyan and Bendtner as the TWO forwards will be more effective as well? A lone striker, Catts and Colback in the centre and Sess as a back up/2nd striker, simply isnt and will never work to score freely.
Blackcatsteve... Thanks for all the stats. I just wish I was computer savvy enough to download such info. As it is I will struggle on with two fingers and hope for the best. LOL
I dont think so mate, would love it, but so far Gyan is firing blanks, and I dont know who is going to provide the service to them, time will tell, as you know Brucie, I am a glass half empty type.
Bendtner, 23, said: "I will never go back to Arsenal. If I can have it my way, I will never play for them again. "After my car accident I never really got the chance to earn a spot in the first team. "That is over 1½ years with no real chance to prove myself. "I am really looking forward to playing for Sunderland and then we will see next summer. "I will find a new club â but I will not go back to Arsenal, that's for sure."
